How to launch Steam games with `gamemoderun`?

I'm trying to launch Ghost of Tsushima with HDR, but HDR just isn't recognized out of the box. A comment on ProtonDB ( https://www.protondb.com/app/2215430/#i-0KizNc24 ) suggests changing the steam Launch Options to:
ENABLE_HDR_WSI=1 gamescope --fullscreen -w 3440 -h 1440 -r 144 --hdr-enabled --hdr-debug-force-output -- env ENABLE_GAMESCOPE_WSI=1 DXVK_HDR=1 DISABLE_HDR_WSI=1 gamemoderun %command%
ENABLE_HDR_WSI=1 gamescope --fullscreen -w 3440 -h 1440 -r 144 --hdr-enabled --hdr-debug-force-output -- env ENABLE_GAMESCOPE_WSI=1 DXVK_HDR=1 DISABLE_HDR_WSI=1 gamemoderun %command%
But gamemoderun isn't available in the default KDE bazzite-nvidia:stable. Keeping gamemoderun in the command causes crashes at launch. I tried just scrubbing gamemoderun from the command which allowed GoT to start, but HDR remained unavailable. What do I need to do to get gamemoderun available, or is there something else I can sub in for it?

what happens if you take gamemoderun out of the command. I seem to recall reading that we don't need it in Bazzite for some reason. What happens if you try and launch the game with this instead ENABLE_HDR_WSI=1 gamescope --fullscreen -w 3440 -h 1440 -r 144 --hdr-enabled --hdr-debug-force-output -- env ENABLE_GAMESCOPE_WSI=1 DXVK_HDR=1 DISABLE_HDR_WSI=1 %command% Also if you are using proton, try proton GE instead. protonup-qt or protonfix are preinstalled in bazzite

gamemode is explicitly removed here system76-scheduler does the same thing without the launch option ENABLE_HDR_WSI=1 gamescope --fullscreen -w 3440 -h 1440 -r 144 --hdr-enabled --hdr-debug-force-output -- env ENABLE_GAMESCOPE_WSI=1 DXVK_HDR=1 DISABLE_HDR_WSI=1 %command%

Thanks both, I'll give.it another go. Unfortunately I think Steam has cached some configuration somewhere and the game won't launch anymore regardless of what I do. Deleting and reinstalling didn't help. Ill try a reboot and poking around the .steam directory and see if I can get it to launch again 😓

You might need to delete the compat data for the game /var/home/your-user-name/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/ The folder will match the url for the game when you look it up in protondb so folder 2215430 in your case. Then steam will re-install the game dependencies and hopefully work

Ah, neat, that got me pack to a launch able state, thanks! The HDR hack did seem to work... Except it now can't get past the intro movie. Such is life! Thank you for the help!

You could try this mod, https://www.nexusmods.com/ghostoftsushima/mods/4 it looks like it replaces the intro movie with a 1 second clip. Secondly it might be worth trying ProtonGE, it has a lot of the media codecs included or installable at least which helps fix a lot of games.
