Help switching to Nvidia Legacy Drivers?
Hello! I'm moderatley new to Linux (made the jump with all the Windows 11 bs going on). Loving Bazzite so far, but i'm running into one issue: I'm using a Nvidia GTX 650Ti, a card that requires the legacy Nvdia drivers (470.x). I can't figure out how to switch to that driver, and without it i'm getting all sorts of major graphics issues. If anyone could point me in the right direction that'd be amazing!
Edited to add more details: I'm using bazzite-nvidia:stable, GNOME.

If you on the Bazzite nvidia image I don't think you can do that. What you'll probably need to do is install the standard edition of Bazzite and then manually install the 470 drivers and xorg with
rpm-ostree install
ok, that actually does help a lot
actually.... wait a second. Have you tried switching to x11 instead of wayland (bottom right hand corner on the log in screen)
nope, let me do that
hmm my options there were GNOME or GNOME on Xorg, and switching to the second is just giving me a mouse cursor on a black screen
Gnome on Xorg is x11
ah gotcha
well, no dice in any case. Not to worry, I was just trying Bazzite as an experiment, and if i have to come back to it once i have a different card then so be it!
So yeah you could rebase to the non nvidia image and then manually install the drivers.... but yeah that honestly isn't the Bazzite experience where things just work.... So in your scenario I would try Mint or Pop_OS
thanks! Pop was next on my list so i'm off to there. Thanks for the help!
There is a Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/poposlinux the guy leading it, Paul Armen, is very helpful if you get stuck with Pop
470 driver is not available in rpmfusion anymore
Good to know, I won't suggest that as a possibility in future then. Thank you
Sadly bazzite can only support the latest nvidia driver, we cannot support the legacy drivers due to both the DEs we use are slowly moving to wayland only (which is a good thing but sucks for older nvidia hardware...)
plus they are not available in rpmfusion anymore as mentioned earlier (which is most likely for the same reason too)
