:uniqlo: I don’t have experience with j crew (not from the US) but Uniqlo is a pretty safe bet. Depending on how much you want to spend there are alternatives that are less fast fashion.

Uniqlo U tees are pretty sweet. Cheap, nice material, good fit, lots of colors.

Los Angeles Apparel 8.5oz tees are insanely high quality as well

Tried a J Crew t last year and it was pretty underwhelming. Depends on your budget but for cheaper options (the price bracket I live in) Uniqlo and Abercrombie are good.

LL Bean unshrinkable tees are surprisingly good for the price. Slightly boxy fit.

I'd say J Crew is ok if you can get them on sale for $15. They are a bit thin, but not necessarily in a bad way, and come in a lot of fun colors, if that's your thing. Uniqlo supima tees are higher quality, but more conservative color palette, and rarely go on sale below $25.
