Can't enter gaming mode on Steam Deck after restarting
I restarted my Steam Deck without there being any update to bazzite, but when I turned it on, I instantly got booted into desktop mode for no reason at all. I tried going into gaming mode from desktop but it kept booting me back to desktop mode no matter what. It happened while I was letting my Steam Deck to charge, but now it happens regardless if it's plugged into the charger or not. I tried rebasing my bazzite to another version like in the other thread, but it did nothing. Surprisingly, it only affects me and not others so I have no clue what's happening.

could you share the output of this
cat /etc/sddm.conf.d/kde_settings.conf
This has your auto login settings also what image are you on rpm-ostree status
?I'm on bazzite-deck:latest
I'll get the output of the conf real quick
actually.... looks like there might be a bug in gaming mode https://discord.com/channels/1072614816579063828/1235696253963206777

already tried that, didn't work unfortunately
also it says no such file or directory
Then I suspect your autologin settings have changed to desktop mode somehow
Are you on gnome or kde?
KDE
If you look at your login screen behaviour settings. What options do you have and what is selected for the session dropdown?
Is one of them Steam game mode?
nope
it's grayed out and it says plasma (one-time launch)
oh wait
nvm I didn't check that box
I have 5 of them
2 of Steam Big Picture (Wayland)
plasma (one-time launch)
and plasma (Wayland)
Try this: leave auto login off for now, but when you going to log in, there will be an option in the bottom left hand corner to select your session. Try select one of the big picture mode options
See if one of them gets you back into game mode
I mean it was already off before
like I never left it on, if I leave it off it will just be a black screen that normally would boot you into gaming mode
but instead the black screen flickers like 3 times and then boots into desktop mode
have a look in your home folder, you might have to press CTRL+H to show hidden files. There should be two files with gamescope in the name. One of them is a log file
I'm hoping that the log file might give some idea of what the error is
.gamescope-cmd.log and .gamescope-stdout.log?
lemme put them here
if you switch to TTY2 with CTRL+ALT+F2 and just type
gamescope-session
what happens?command not found...
it seems it got deleted entirely
Lets see if gamescope works at all
gamescope vkcube
does this work?yeah, it does actually
if you switch to TTY2 and you run what is in your cmd log here does it give you a better error?
doesn't seem to do anything
it seems stuck
yeah, it's just doing this
sorry for the tilt
lol no problem.
Ok you can kill that test with CTRL+C and please do an
rpm-ostree status
again. in desktop modeboot to desktop and make sure steam launches
gamescope logs shows nothing, meaning it's likely a steam crash
steamos-session-select plasma
yeah, steam launches fine
the other command just gives me a black screen
with a _ on the top-left corner
that command should just be switching you to KDE
it just froze everything for me
restarting it fixes it though
still having this issue after a month, any ideas on how I could restore gaming mode somehow?
it seems it might be an issue with the gamescope-session command since it just gives me command not found
is there a way to restore it?
That's part of the image, it can't be missing
rpm-ostree status
well I am on bazzite-deck:latest yet it still says command not found
It's because it's not a command
It's a service
If you could include your gamescope logs from your home directory that might help
Since you're on a steam deck and it's not working for you, whatever it is must be local to your system and not in the image
Shouldn't be too hard to find
.gamescope-cmd.log and .gamescope-stdout.log I assume?
they're the only ones that show up
I've finally solved the problem by deleting my steam folder and reinstalling everything
I have no idea why it did that but everything is fine now
weirdest bug I've ever had
but everything is fine now fortunately
thank you for trying at least
apparently it might be related to decky loader for some reason
I know you guys aren't related to them so I'll see what they can do
