Plasma Crashing FIX
I figured out a fix it is caused by the vapor theme after it crashes use alt f2 and open Ptyxis and then run
kstart plasmashell and it will keep crashing so do alt f2 and then open the System settings go to color and themes and then change it to something that is not vapor and check all the boxes so it changes everything now you should have a working desktop51 Replies
You do still get spammed with weird crash logs but at least you can use your desktop
Do you have any logs that show its vapor?
None of the developers here are able to reproduce this and vapor is working fine

I get the same issue with plasma crasking in desktop. I'll try your fix and see if it works
It looks like switching it off vapor and then back to vapor fixed it I will need to reinstall it to actually show it again
I think it was a file ending in a json or something like that
If you use the command it will show what is crashing but you have to read fast I was not able to quit the command when running it
I cannot recreate the crash in the first place

that’s what is telling me it’s vapor
It needs a newer json format
It seems like the meta.desktop. needs to be updated
Any time it try’s to load the theme it crashes
I did change from the default to breeze dark and restarted with 'kstart plasmashell' and set the correct resolution and disabled the deck and now it's no longer crashing for me
I don't think those logs are related
You have a consider updating which I have too in a working copy
And an error about an image format at a path we don't touch
I just did my fourth fresh reinstall and I cannot reproduce this crash

the kf.whatever stuff is not related, the qrc lines are just "missing internal resources" or issues with resource/asset but nothing warranting a crash
kcrash is just trying to start plasmashell and counting how many times it crashed.
And vapor works fine for you on a fresh install on your LGO, yea?
yep as long as its still the default
i didnt change the default theme and the LGO worked fine for me, no issues other than the dancing HHD video i shared with you (which is already fixed, as in you can press B to stop it from happening)

Try it again but when switching the theme click breeze twilight it helps to have the system settings open before you run the command so you are not fighting with it when trying to type
i occasionally fail to login after a reboot and the only thing i can point to when it happens is these exact same warnings and then some contention before plasma fails to start
New ISO is up with default theme changed
If it still happens I'll reverse the change

you can control + alt + f4 and
rpm-ostree update

dumb question but when i do that it's asking for a password... i don't have a password lol
you should, not having one is a very bad idea and our install guide covers that
if you don't, pressing enter when it asks should be enough
alas you are right. Am I able to set a password now or is it too late and need to start over?

After 2 fresh installs I was able to get desktop mode to load... Just to go into gaming mode and back to desktop and it doesn't work now lol

The only thing I can find is the thing that I said I can keep looking when I have power again
I did have major issues with it on Nvidia, in Wayland, but I am using x11 with Vapor right now, and no issues. across 2 video card and multiple screens
Maybe the bug happens only right after the install for some of us
