Problem when playing Competetive (Gold 1 + Unranked)

I'm trying to play Comp with an unranked friend (I'm Gold 1), but the game won't let us because the skill disparity is too high. Any idea why?

in that case its probably the mmr being too low (low because the account never had a rank, since most of the first ever ranks are iron / bronze)

the unranked account probably has had a previous rank which was either below silver or above plat
