uk tld requires organization name (Cloudflare Registrar)
In the Cloudflare Registrar, it seems that it requires an organization name to be filled out when registering any domain with the tld uk (i.e.
example.uk
).
Does this mean that if I am not a part of an organization I am not allowed to buy any domain with the tld uk
? Or am I supposed to fill that out with N/A
? (Note that it seems other tld's, such as site
, don't require the organization field and clarify "if applicable.")3 Replies
Also, wikipedia says this about the domains: "The intended restriction of .co.uk to companies is purely nominal; in practice it is open to any and all applicants. Likewise, whilst .org.uk is for organisations, there are no restrictions on registering domains. While .me.uk originally had no restrictions on registrants it has since been tightened up to require registrants to be natural persons (i.e. not companies, etc.) " [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.uk ]. Godaddy also mentions that
.uk
is for anyone and .me.uk
is for private individuals [ https://www.godaddy.com/help/about-uk-domains-5854 ]. Yet, all of these variants (includnig .uk
itself) seem to "require" an organization name on cloudflare.
Does anyone happen to have any insight on this? You probably just have to put something. It doesn’t have to be a legally registered company, “JJCUBER’s Cool Website” is a perfectly legitimate organization. As far as I know there’s no legal requirement to register your business name, so this is also perfectly legitimate (as long as your name isn’t intentionally deceptive).
I see, thank you!
