If you turn on Domain Lockdown, then it's not exploitable with your domain. But many of their customers don't have this enabled, and if you sign up with another hosting provider that uses MailChannels, you can still send emails from many of their customers that'll pass security checks, yes.

Given I'm using Domain Lockdown, the main issue seems to be potentnial for lowered deliverability if others on the shared server were abusing it in the way you described.
That, and how much trust you may give them with their history (and more importantly their response, or lack thereof) at this point. Personally, I wouldn't trust them, but that's up to you to judge.
