Java threads question (interrupted(), interrupt())

@Override
public void run() {
while (!interrupted()) {
try {
System.out.println("MyTimer: not interrupted");
this.interrupt();
sleep(laps);
} catch (InterruptedException e) {
System.out.println("MyTimer: exception " + e);
}
}
}
@Override
public void run() {
while (!interrupted()) {
try {
System.out.println("MyTimer: not interrupted");
this.interrupt();
sleep(laps);
} catch (InterruptedException e) {
System.out.println("MyTimer: exception " + e);
}
}
}
this should exit the while loop right after the first MyTimer: not interrupted, but it doesnt why ?, it takes so long for it to stop executing

The interrupted status is cleared when it is acted upon, such as by throwing an InterruptedException instead of keeping waiting. As it is cleared, calls to interrupted() will return false

The call to interrupted() clears it as well. For this reason, isInterrupted() should be used instead of interrupt().
