Because it requires a launch option to be manually applied to work and sets the performance governor by default which is bad for battery life and single threaded performance we are not interested in shipping it under any circumstance

Actually, after quite a bit of testing, I realized that being in performance gouvernor mode instead of balanced mode stabilizes my FPS significantly. And I actually wanted to avoid being in performance mode all the time. I thought performance mode only activated when you started a game?
Also, I want to avoid having to go back and forth in the settings to activate it.
So, I found that setting the game mode as a launch option wasn't so bad.

Having your clock speeds forced to their highest means your individual single cores cannot clock as high as they otherwise could for single threaded workloads, which are primarily games

Otherwise it will conflict

I have the same result on some games and with my main computer too.
With the governor in performance mode, I get better performance and more stability.
I think it depends on the games; with Shadow of the Tomb Raider, I also gain ~10 percent with the game mode.
Borderland too
Maybe you can reproduce it with Borderlands 3; it's one of the most noticeable.
And I have friends who can reproduce it. The YouTuber A1RM4X also gets significantly more FPS on Borderlands 3 with the game mode.
