How do I fix my short hair behind my neck ? Should I trim them and wait for them to grow out?

In my opinion let them grow, I cut mine once and it looked fucking stupid for months ðŸ˜
I only notice mine when I wear a ponytail. They kind of stick out. Yesterday I trimmed around 1cm. I believe that my split ends slowed down the growth
