Advice for summer shoes
I am going to Malaysia in the summer and it will be quite hot there. I plan to buy some linen clothes but I need help with what shoes to buy. I'm going to be walking a lot and thought of getting some sneakers. I like the look of these summer fits: https://imgur.com/a/mhYBy
What kind of shoes would fit for my purpose? I think loafers would look good but I probably can't walk around a lot in those..

how long of a trip, how large of a budget, and will you be engaging in actual trekking/hiking/athletic activity while there?
Malaysian here, depends on what you're mainly gonna be doing here. most of us wear flip flops or sneakers daily
don't really recommend Birkenstocks due to the rain although you do see many here
2 weeks, up to 300€ I’d say for busget. No hiking just walking
Hello! I’m gonna eat your incredible food! I want some semi fashinoable sneakers for walking around in the summer. Sneakers are probably my best bet so what would you recommend?
Sandals are honestly kinda great for the level of heat and humidity you'll be up against
tbh styles here wildly from chunky sneakers, running shoes, EVA slides, Birks, you'd fit in whatever you choose to wear
if you're deadset on sneakers then maybe white/off-white vans authentics or adidas sambas
that said many of those pictures in your inspo album feature espadrilles or loafers and unless you're logging miles and miles each day those are also good options imo
you'd definitely stand out wearing espadrilles / loafers since theyre pretty rare here
Its not really imoortant to me if I blend in or not. I want some shoes that look decent (subjective ifc) with the inspo album, but that I can also walk say 20k steps in. I don’t think I can do that in loafers no? I dont own loafers so idk about this, but they don’t strike me as the comfortable kind of shoe
Maybe a chunky white sneaker? What do you guys think of this one, paired with some looser white/ish pants?
loafers plus insoles are the way
Oh can you elaborate?
And you mean leather loafers?
yes i mean leather loafers; suede would also work
Fisherman sandals 🙂
Sneakers you linked are cute but might not gel with the slimmer fit linen stuff

the vast majority of days i'm walking multiple miles and have never had issues except with rain, where i'd just wear canvas sneakers
the big sneakers could work (and if they're comfortable that's the most important thing) but feel a little too heavy for the more delicate linens you're trying to wear them alongside
Also yeah some of the default sneaker options here are vans old skools or converse Chuck 70s
Less on trend options (I think!) are stan smiths and killshots
Hmm I do prefer the baggy look but those pieces are harder to find in my experience. I dont really like converse, not my style. I liked these shoes because theyre chunky
The fisherman sandals look really interesting. Idk if I dare to try them haha
I have weird taste but I like slim fit for formal clothes, and more baggy/loose for casual clothes
wider fit linen is in rn, you should be able to find some if you look around! Muji def has some and various other fast fashion brands probably carry them.
Around here, Black Ficus is a popular option as well for linen pants.
Ill look around a bit more! What kind of pants would you style the fisherman sandals with? I guess smart pants could work?
This is also an option, https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1099593003/linen-barrel-leg-pants-cocos-natural as are other Etsy brands like WavyLinen, LinenCocon, and notPerfectLinen
Linen Barrel Leg Pants COCOS, Natural Undyed Linen Pants, Yoga Pant...

In the pic zeo linked I’m wearing big dumb pants with them
They’re pretty flexible
Basically any fit in your inspo album would work with them
I would try to break them in before your trip or bring moleskin/bandaids though, they can be a little tough (applies to most leather shoes, though)
what's mole skin? Could you wear them with cotton/wool socks?
oh cool! In terms of comfort, these would be less comfortable than sneakers? Comfort is quite important to me..
It depends on the pair and your feet
MY pair of THESE sandals are less comfortable FOR ME to put miles on than most other shoes I own
I think I might have to go for sneakers just in case. But I didnt know about fisherman sandals before. I'll definitely keep them in mind for future purchases! thanks everyone for the help!
oh espadrilles was also new to me, really cool shoes
Godspeed and enjoy your trip!
