Trying to figure out my face shape and some ideal haircuts when obese, seeing hairdresser tomorrow
Hi, first of all I'm sorry if I mess up the format of the thread somehow, this is my first time using this functionality on Discord. So yeah, basically I've seen some videos on face shape and what haircuts might work, I'm finding it difficult to identify which haircuts would fit since I'm very overweight. I've had a buzzcut for the last 2 years out of convenience but now that I've grown my hair out for a while and am wondering if ya'll have any suggestions on both my face shape and haircut. One though is if I should put my hair more on top of my head like this, or keep it more forward covering part of my forehead? Also an important question: My hair is very, VERY thick, should I thin it? I hear sometimes some hairdressers do so the "wrong way" and results are bad, but idk. Seeing the hairdresser in 8 hours, sorry for posting on such short notice lol, any help appreciated! Thanks in advance.

We tend to steer people away from 'face shapes' here because they come with more baggage than they seem to help anyone.
I think what you've got going on looks pretty good. I might get it tidied up a bit but unless it's really bugging you I think it's in a pretty good spot length wise.
That's fair, I'm new to all this so it doesn't surprise me to learn it has baggage now that I think of it. With this in mind, just looking at my face, do you have any other suggestions? I usually end in a weird spot where my hair is not long enough to fully pull it back, but also too long to just keep hanging forward with no wax.
Kinda with rej. This is a really good length. Do you have product in it in these photos?
I think a cleanup where the hairs are trying to run away at your ears, and around the neckline is really all I'd change. I think the length really suits you
Gonna agree with everyone here and recommend you don't buy into face shape nonsense when it comes to hairstyles. You can try pretty much anything you want like there is no "best" haircut for you. Obviously growing your hair really long or changing the texture dramatically is going to be a bigger effort than just changing the shape via haircut but really dude you can do anything.
I heavily heavily recommend collecting photos of people with haircuts you like and want to try out when you're thinking about a new cut. I had a like 50+ photo album when I cut my hair into a mullet and it was really helpful for collecting my thoughts around what I wanted so I could best like communicate them to my barber.
haha, no. This photo was of when I hadn't showered in 3 days just now, but I just did. I'll show a pic tomorrow after the haircut, I have been debating which kind of a hair product to use though, I find very hard wax just doesn't work well for me, I need something a little less extreme or I look like a doll lol (or I'm doing it wrong, I guess)
look for a hair putty or clay instead of wax, they'll give you a semi-matte or very matte finish, reapectively
Thanks @Salo my main question then would be what you think of length on the sides, personally I'm very much so overheating every single day cause of a medical condition, so the hair on the side needs to be shorter, but the question is how much, I have some photos ive been looking at, one of them is something like this in terms of longer on top, shorter on the sides
thx a lot! I dig the idea of semi-matte or matte, I need to experiment with that
also in your reply salo you said you can do anything, but changing texture can be a pretty big thing, I was just thinking of having my hair about as volymous as in this photo
or maybe a little less, but i dont think too flat looks good on me
Long on top short on sides is a classic cut for a reason, it works for a lot of different hair types and textures and can be styled as much as you feel like. If you have a medical condition causing you to overheat then yeah getting that extra length and thickness off your sides and probably back too is a good call.
I get my hair thinned out as well and it's very easy to do/request without your cut being like noticeably changed. Once you've settled on the style and the cut is like 80% finished, just as your barber to go through it again with a pair of thinning shears. It's really quick and will take a lot of bulk out of the middle without changing the way it looks. Don't be afraid to ask even if they take the like apron and start ringing you up, it's worth it.
thx, i'll make sure to do it this way, I know I'm being annoying now maybe but, in general, do I ask her to thin it A LOT for a more volymous style, or just like a little bit? Assuming I start out with thick hair. I've been growing this hair for a good while and I'm super freaked out I'm gonna ruin it and need to regrow haha
You won't ruin it, you're always gonna grow more. I'm sure if you mention that thick hair is causing you to overheat a bit she will know how much to thin it out without changing the shape of the hairstyle you're going for
I usually let the pro decide what they think is ideal. I go in with a general idea but am always open to whatever they suggest. They've done more haircuts than I'll ever have in my life
fr if you just tell them "long top, short sides, thin it out at the end" then all you have to work out is the lengths, type of fade/taper, where to part it, and then take some product recommendations
yeah exactly, this pro is a pro, but not anymore technically, she's a longtime friend's wife, she's been home as a homewife for a few years, but did hairdresser school and worked as it for like 5 years before moving and getting pregnant, he says she still cuts him and lots of his friends, so im not too anxious, but it's a new hairdresser nonetheless haha
but yeah im gonna have to trust her anyways, so ill just follow your advice of being general, thx
Hey brother! From big hairy dude to big hairy dude, you're a good looking guy! I'm sure your haircut is gonna look great 🙂 send some pics after you get it done (with an outfit if you feel like it!)
@Shrimp(2) @Salo @rej Here are the results, thanks for the help. The hair isn't meant to go so far down on the side like this, but I need to get some better hair products to keep a good shape, but overall I'm happy. I think in about 1-1.5 month from now when it's grown out a little longer and I can push the top further back it'll be perfect 🙂
Dude it looks great!
She really cleaned it up nicely
Also you and I have a very similar face. Growing in a beard could be killer
Wait this is such a sweet photo lol. Filled me with joy
☀️ 😊
