sizing with vests vs regular jackets/knits
Are vests that are too big easier to wear than the equivalently sized jacket/knit?

You really need to provide more info and details. But as always measurements are key
Vest in the UK means tanktop, from what I can tell in the US it can be anything from waistcoat to huntingvest. Desired fit on those items varies massively.
It's a plaid wool vest
So closer to a hunting vest than a waistcoat. Definitely not something intended to be worn with a suit
Have you tried it on and looked in a mirror?
Did it look cool?
Can you imagine it looking cool with stuff you have in your wardrobe?
