ill push a pr up tomorrow and with a little more work should be ready for beta testing

The initial release will be for bluefin allowing me some time to make the configuration more dynamic for the other distros and personalized content etc.
YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
lmk how to run this
Samesies
I can't wait to try out cosmic

https://github.com/ublue-os/yafti/pull/229
please do keep in mind that it is very beta π
(it is completely usable tho)
was trying it out on a vm and everything works very nicely now
I know the PR is not complete yet, but it would be nice for folks reviewing to have a summary of the changes that have been introduced since this is a pretty big rewrite.
agreed.
i have a list of action items ill add to the board tomorrow.
If there's a way to run it locally let's toss up a new thread on the forum "Testers wanted for the new bazzite/bluefin portal"
"git clone this and then run this..."
and then let people kick the tyres
@j0rge Yes, love the idea. I need to add more docs. we can push to pypi whenever. I likely dont have a login etc.
i set up distrobox for yafti with a number of just helpers. happy to do go over the how whenever,
i am adding bugs, updating the project boards, and issues.
I have work deliverables and a talk to give on tuesday so I'll be out of band the next few days
but it's all coming along swimmingly. π
let me know how i can help.
this live or just slides? (if slides money)
I'm almost done, they're private anyway
RH is announcing stuff but our talk is before then
so I gotta use the right words
enterprise gonna enterprise
whenever you start to free up a bit would love to chat about some ideas i have about ublue server stuff π
ublue server stuff?
light weight headless server solution π maybe toss in some k8s
have you never seen #π½ucore-server https://projectucore.io/
Yeah, it looks like a good start. I would love to see a couple super optimized flavors for systemd container workloads as well as a zero to full k8s cluster solution with cloud images.
just something i have been noodling on.
"good start" feels a bit dismissive, but I'll assume I'm misunderstanding
cloud images have definitely been discussed (by that, I assume you mean AMIs, etc for AWS / GCR / Azure)
it's just time and effort
not sure what "super optimized for systemd container workloads" means
seems like that's pretty much Fedora CoreOS
what we DO need is some example quadlets, at least in the repo, and maybe pre-staged on the image with an easy qualet enable (eg,
ujust quadlet-enable traefik
)
not that i'm meaing to derail your yafti threadSorry don't mean to sound dismissive. Yeah, it would be nice to be able to use use ucore for a larger cloud environments as well and have a talos (something like) like offering.
no worries
no offense taken.
i see value in having easier to provision on big clouds...
not sure I want to try to re-invent the Talos wheel
I don't get much help on ucore... but that's starting to change
Once the yafti stuff get a bit more mature i am happy to help. I am currently building new clusters and wouldn't mind playing around with our distro a bit.
For the systemd stuff its basically quadlets yes. I guess i still haven't gotten past the doing that on your own thing.
for stuff like elastic search / Cassandra / <db goes here> i prefer to run them in systemd with their own drives etc.
CSI's still take to much effort and eat to much iops
well, i'm never going to build bespoke ucore images for ES / Cassandra / <db goes here> π but anyone CAN build them on top of ucore-minimal if they wish
Would love to have a nerd out session with you to that about it. looking for two things really. Systemd (quadlets like) with a selection addons with minimal cloud init. For kubernetes (immutable vms prebaked ready to be auto scaled away minimual usedata / no helm) with a add on selection. maybe even add a little gitops to the mix.
kind of a saturated space... fun though.
i cant english today
