constraint motion doubt

In this question, if the mass is moving by the velocity u, then shouldn't the other end of the pulley also move by u? That would mean while A moves towards the right it should move by u*cos theta as the hypotenuse would be u.

Velocity of A would be U sec ∅ You can also use the String constraint... Say the A block is moving With V velocity in X Direction.... So you'll have to make components of the V vector along and perpendicular to the string. So it would Be V cos ∅= U So V( velocity of A along x) = u sec∅ __ Or you can use the basic formula.. Sum(T.UCos∅) = 0 for a single rope/ string So T(V) cos∅ + T(u)(-1)=0 V= u sec∅

Thank you so much, I got it now, so I just had to take the component in the direction of the string and get the relation that way.

Since the ring will actually move in x direction, you have to treat ‘u’ as component of ‘v’ along the string and not ‘v’ being component of ‘u’ along the rail, since ‘v’ is the actual velocity of ring
