Blender HIP Rendering greyed out in every version I try to install
I have an Asus TUF Gaming 6700 XT, with MSI motherboard and Intel 7700k.
I installed the Fedora 39 based Bazzite first, and rebased, updated to the newer version on the next day. I also reinstalled the whole system with the newer Bazzite 3.0 image.
I used the deck version both times. Blender tells me there is no compatible GPU. On my second install I did not even logged in to steam just tried to install Blender, so it's a 100% clean system.
I tried to use and install the following Blender versions, both with the latest 3.6LTS and the 4.1 latest stable:
- Flatpak
- TAR, directly from Blender's site
- Steam version
- Fedora box with distrobox.
I hope we can figure out this issue since using Blender with this GPU is the second most important thing for me on this system.

I added this issue to github as well 🙂 Tried to be detailed as possible but let me know if I can do anything else.

when you installed w/ a fedora box
make sure you installed HIP in the box
you need the HIP libraries for it to work
I can confirm that distrobox blender HIP is working great on my 6900 XT right now.
No luck. 😦
sudo dnf install rocm-hip
sudo dnf install blender
That's how I installed
There is also something pretty weird. When I install this in distrobox (i'm on gnome) app headline is not theme based.
you've got something goofy going on
these also look funny
I mean how could I do anything wrong if this one is a fresh install?
might be worth doing a call one day to see where the problem is
used boxbuddy for export. It's not running the app with the Run button
I'd love to do that man. Really tried my best here
Just checked and after restart I get a proper Blender icon, but the app headline still goofy.
I recently installed ChimeraOS to give it a try. I was able to run Blender with HIP installed in root. The tar version produced freezing when I selected HIP. I mean that feels 1 step closer. At least something is going on. But what I found weird I still get those white headers when I install Blender in distrobox 😄
I also booted into windows 11 to make sure everything is fine with the card. I installed Blender 3.6 LTS and ran the crowdender plugin on the network successfully. HIP works on windows. Unfortunately I still want to get rid of windows.
I gave up on this for a while but I have update. I was unable to make it work on Chimeraos but a few days ago I successfully activated HIP rendering on Nobara. So I expect it’s possible to do here as well, however Nobara is using a newer kernel right?
I tried yesterday of course but no success. On Nobara only the tarball version worked. Blender 4.2.2
