Polypane Open-Source Alternative
Here's an open source alternative for those (like me) that don't feel like having to pay a subscription for every single tool they want to use:

Polypane is soooooo much more than just split panes, just tossing that out there.
I'll have to check this out but probably just stick with polypane personally.
totally fair. but for those that only need that. this is a valid and cost effective alternative.
Hey, Polypane creator here 👋 I charge for Polypane so I get to work on it full time and do things like continuously build new features and keep the rendering engine up to date. One thing to keep in mind is you should check the version of Chromium these tools are running. Often they're very outdated, bringing potential security issues while also missing features from recent chromium releases.
If pricing is an issue, Polypane is free for students, discounted for educational and charitable institutions and we also offer purchase power parity: https://polypane.app/special-offers/
Hey @Kilian , thanks for chiming in. All sounds very reasonable, commendable and i totally understand the need for a steady income stream completely (especially when this is your only source of income). And you are absolutely right, the open source alternatives are lagging behind when it comes to offering the newest engine builds.
I personally am just very frustrated with the ongoing trend of everything has to be a subscription nowadays and try to avoid that as much as possible. I wish more people would choose a perpetual license that is valid for point releases and offer an upgrade path for when another point release is done.
To be clear, this is my personal preference and opinion and in no way do i want to undermine your work or your tool (which does look great btw).
That would leave people stuck on an unmaintained version of Chromium and I don’t wanna be responsible for that. Neither do I want to hold back features just so I can put them in ‘the next release’.
I get the hesitation and I get that puts it out of reach for some (which is why I have those discounts) but if you are employed as a dev, getting it expensed is often easy (and if not I have resources to help with that, too)
