trying to do the basics on a legion go...
So far, Bazzitte is amazing, I love having the steamdeck experience on the legion go. I look foward to testing battery life. But there are some basic quality of life stuff that I can't get working.
1) When in desktop mode, I cannot get an onscreen keyboard to come up at all. i "think" i have wayland running, and steam is running, but a Virtual Keyboard will not come up and so far, I also can't get my bluetooth keyboard to connect.
2) resolution is way too high in both desktop and gaming mode. some apps scale, some are wayyy too big and some are way too small.
Seems to be an issue in games too as some launchers do not come up correctly so I can't even see their buttons. Are these things that are currently fixable right now? Are they in progress for future updates? Again it's really cool to see what works, just trying to work with what is not yet working.

Do you know if you're using KDE or Gnome...that will help answer the keyboard question
When in desktop mode, I cannot get an onscreen keyboard to come up at all. This is enabled by steam, check your controller bind settings under steam settings I recommend X to open keyboard
2) resolution is way too high in both desktop and gaming mode. some apps scale, some are wayyy too big and some are way too small.I am working on scaling steam, for others there's a desktop scale setting in system settings on both KDE & GNOME you can change
KDE. Does it auto pop up in Gnome? It works fine in game mode, but not at all in desktop.
The issue is that the resolution should not be so high. Not every app scales properly. and some, games with launchers have a terrible time in game mode as well, plus you take a performance hit for everything being so high.
Is that something being worked on?
It depends. You can enable the gnome on screen keyboard in accessibility. However, the Legion L + X key should bring up the Steam keyboard (it does on my Legion Go), so that’s weird if it’s not happening for you. Steam needs to be open for it to work.
Not really, scale support itself is however
and will improve w/ time
For tiny windows & the link you'll have a much better time in gamemode for the time being
I am working on setting Steam's scaling settings by default to improve that experience on LGO
speaking of which..
GamingOnLinux
Steam UI scaling should work even better in the latest Beta
Having Steam UI scaling issues? You may want to have a look at the Steam Client Beta that was released June 15th and see how you get on.
If you want to find a value for this you think looks best on your LGO
I can make it the default
tthat sucks. it's not just about scaling. If you can't lower resolution and all games are palying at the rediculous one it is now, evevery game suffers. better off in windows 😦
Simple as opening a terminal w/ steam closed and doing:
STEAM_FORCE_DESKTOPUI_SCALING=1.5 steam
Same advice as a normal steam deck
don't play games in desktop mode
play them in game mode, that's what it's forI had a steam deck and the resolution wasn't that bad, and the issue is clearly in game mode too as when the EA app opens or the game launcher for various games open in game mode they don't resize like they do on the steam deck
then you aren't running a whole desktop environment in the background too, 100% of your hardware is being used for the game
Wine apps can be scaled from the configuration menu:
That's accessible in lutris from the UI, and for steam via included Protontricks
if I play in game mode, am I actually able to set a 1280 x 800 ? or are all games trying to play at that high res that the desktop mode is using
You can use any resolution you want, gamemode will scale them to native via your chosen scale type
FSR, Integer, NIS, whatever you want
Usually playing Windowed or Borderless Fullscreen works best in Game Mode if you want to scale up, at least from my experience. Sometimes it won't make use of FSR otherwise.
yes, this is true on deck too for games that do their own scaling
game mode is scaling, meaning it's actually running in 16001600x2560 isn't it?
yes, but only the final output
game is rendering at your chosen res
and an interger scale is basically free
If it's set in game to 1280 800 then that's what it will render at, then it can be upscaled to fill the screen afterwards.
ok I'm still early in testing things out. I so far notice that I can't pplay jedi survivor as the EA App blows up too big due to the scaling, and I darksiders2 is janky as heck as if it's playing at a wayyyy high resolution
A screenshot or picture of your screen might be helpful for diagnosing
I'll see if I can. it's in game mode. basically i can see the bottom of EA and the username, but password and th OK button are below the visible screen and things like that
i apologize if I sound bitchy, I don't mean to be. I used the steam deck which mostly handled things beautifuly. I switched to the legion cause i was greedy for the CPU/GPU and detachable controllers. but windows sucks for handheld. battery life is attrocious.
so I'm psyched to get this to work but so far it's a lot of frustration
also, i thnk the lexar SD cards are slow as crap
driving me crazy
Sadly I don't own Jedi Survivor in EA App so I can't be of help, can only provide my experience with Bazzite on the Legion Go. I'm sure we'll get you sorted out though, the pictures would just help. I've never seen anything overscaled on Bazzite in Game Mode, just underscaled when you're not using auto scaling or trying to use integer scaling on a resolution that's not 1280x800.
(Personally I can't stand Integer scaling but some people like it)
I just want my games to play at a reasonable frameframerate and the battery to last more than an hour
windows is awful
and I am a windows gamer, but just awful for handhelds
hey. sorry to be pestering. just something to point out, quite different from steam deck. I started god of war, and if have it set to borderless my resolution defaults to 2560x1600 the fact that that can't be lowered (i used to keep my steam deck at 1280x800) is a very issue issue. I'm surprised that the native res can't be adjusted.
you can set the resolution from game mode in the game's settings
yyep that is where i am at. and the options for GOW is windows or borderless...
no fullscreen, with my own res.
no, i take that back. windowed is full screen
ohgameoptions
i apologize. it's just very strange. windows can adjust the resolution, steamdeck had it working
is it a fedora issue?
Well, Steam Deck had it at 1280x800 with Borderless Window because that's the resolution of the Steam Deck
oh yeah, that's true.
so is it a linux thing? pretty much use native and that's it?
No, you can force it in the Steam settings like Kyle just showed. Or try windowed to see if that gives you more options.
wwindowed worked, but frame rate very janky.
trying now with the game setting
What is your TDP at?
and how are you setting TDP
I thikn left at default. I tried setting manual but it maxes at 15 where as legion should allow up to 33-
30
ahhhhhh setting the res from the game settings helps a ton.
Mmm, yeah, that's because the Steam game mode thinks you're running a Deck. Try installing Decky and SimpleDeckyTDP using the ujust commands in Ptyxis on the desktop.
It's basically a must if you're a Legion Go user and want reliable TDP control (that and making sure you've set your temp settings to STAPM in the BIOS)
you missed our handheld guide, have to install a couple decky plugins for your hardware

I like to do things the hard way. try it, frustrate myself, and then ask for help
You'll fit right in
oh, I'm in IT, i know :
:_
🙂
keyboard on this tablet is terrible
That guide will help a lot
thank you guys for all the help. I have a million more questions. but I'll go read the guide for now
I really hope the steam deck 2 comes along and does detachable controllers. legion is fun tech, but such a pain
I love mine so much I am hoping for a Legion Go 2 and hope it's not a one and done (but it probably will be 😦 )
But yeah, Windows on a handheld SUCKS but you're in the right place now
I just can't believe they didn't even bother making a controller accessory for when you have the controllers detached like the switch does
also it's funny. I'I'm used to doing all the futzing. I used to love using alternative androids (cyanogen) back in the day. I thnk the steam deck spoiled me a bit. it works too well on it's own
Oh and since you asked earlier
I figure, I need to configure in desktop mode, but keyboard issues 🙂
I'll read the guide. thanks again guys
