what to look out for in vintage blazers in terms of style?
for example, 2 button blazers are more "in" than 3 button blazers, etc. a lot of the blazers on ebay are vintage, which is fine, and I don't have a problem wearing something that's not 100% "in style" right now, but what are some things to keep in mind that has changed with style over the decades?
for instance, i hear that Oxxford is historically pretty conservative with their style. where does this usually manifest? thanks

Hard to tell from the listing sometimes but the shoulder expression can be pretty important. Is it a natural shoulder or a more padded/structured shoulder? does it have roping? is it extended? You can usually guess based on the brand and era. I THINK the most "in style" aka common thing at this very second is still a fairly natural shoulder (see, like, suitsupply for example) but we're heading into more structured and padded shoulders being the zeitgeist again maybe (Husbands is a good example) - but don't take my word for it, it's just what I've seen lately.
What sort of style are you going for? And are you looking for a specific kind of blazer (eg navy with brass buttons)? How do you want to wear it? That can help us give you advice on what details to look for.
Looking for a navy one now, I got a tan brooks brothers one that I like a lot a week ago
Reason I asked is because I saw this one https://www.ebay.com/itm/395201925122?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=iGZKf3f-Q7O&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=uhWliZT2R-2&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Oxxford Clothing Onwentsia Sport Coat 42R Blue Hopsack 2 Button Bla...
Size: 42R. The jacket is excellent preowned condition. No stains. No markings.
Looks like it’s from 87, something looks off about it but I can’t really tell what it is
Looks like it might be an orphaned suit jacket? Not sure tho
Based on the navy buttons, 4 button sleeve, and maybe the fabric even
That’s definitely an orphaned jacket and not hopsack. 3 roll 2 (3 buttons where only two are functional) have been the thing in menswear for the past several years with the resurgence of ivy and Italian tailoring.
I’d look for a brooks brothers jacket with a 3/2 roll, soft natural shoulders, a moderate button stance that’s not too low, and open quarters. If you give me your size I can probably find some examples.
thanks, I’m a 38r, though I’ll probably have it tailored anyways so my shoulder width is 18in
Im looking for a navy sport coat so I’ve been seeing a lot of these orphaned suit jackets. It’s kind of hard for me to tell how structured the shoulders are from a lot of the pictures, what usually is the tell for that?
And that’s good to know about the buttons
I’ve been filtering 3 button out of my search for a while so probably a good idea to keep those in
Just kind of a crap shoot. An 18 shoulder is usually closer to a 40
ah okay
Yeah I usually check all of the ones around that size
Some of the sizes are so off, I’ve seen 44Ls that would fit me perfectly
