Durable, comfortable, stretchy pant recommendations
Hey all!
I got into rock climbing a couple months ago and I am need of some pants since I keep scraping my knees.
Some climbers recommend these Pranas: https://www.prana.com/p/stretch-zion-pant/2056941.html
They are kinda pricey so I am wondering if anyone has found some stretchy + durable pants in a lower price range say <$60?
I liked the Pranas cause they looked nice enough to wear casually around town, but also functional for climbing/hiking 😀

I used to have some Prana Brions that I liked, but the fabric and cut of the new Brion 2 is terrible, IMO. Not sure if this applies to the Zions as well.
I got some of these on sale for <$60, and they seem OK so far, but I haven't really put them to the test yet. https://www.orvis.com/product/jackson-quick-dry-pants/3JN8.html
Jackson Quick-Dry Pants
These pants are your outdoor must-haves. They keep you cool, dry fast, and block UV rays, wet or dry.
A lot of pants like this are not going to be very fashionable, though.
Gramicci pants seem to be well-regarded here, though. You may be able to find some second hand for <$60.
gotcha thanks I'll check those out! 😀
being fashionable is really a cherry on top for me if they are, but my focus is really on their function/durability i'd say
You can definitely find Gramicci pants secondhand for cheap. I just got some for $25
Plug for Topo Designs. Can't speak to climbing, but I wear their Mountain Ripstops on hikes, and their Dirt Pants as my "around the house" pants

Oh my that's a hyperlink
I’ve climbed in a very similar Prana (a bit higher waisted) with no issues and I liked them and also wear them out a decent amount when I’m not feeling dressy
I’ll second the gramicci rec as well
Some people really like very baggy martial arts style pants and swear by them, I’ve never tried it
That said you don’t need to get super teched out unless you’re a super serious 4+ times a week climber so how you would feel wearing something off the rocks should be your primary criteria (IMO) to pick between the numerous good options
