Straight Fit Chinos/Jeans for Big Thighs
I’ve been trying for way too long to find a pair of straight fit pants that fit well with no success. Any of the straight fits I’ve tried that fit my waist are skin tight in the thighs. If I size up in waist or go to wider fits, the leg opening starts to look too wide for my preferences. Anyone have any pants recs for guys with larger than average quads? Looking for leg opening <=8” at 32” (34 true) waist.

look for relaxed or classic fit instead, straight fit usually doesnt have that much more room than slim fit (at most brands at least)
JCrew classic fit might work but the leg opening is a little bigger at 8.5", but I feel like that wont make a big difference
you could also go athletic tapered fit if you want a narrower leg opening. at most brands it seems like athletic fit usually has more room than straight fit in the top block but more taper
Or get stuff tailored to the right width
Personally, think 8.5” starts to look like I’m cosplaying someone 10 years younger than me, and all the athletic tapers look silly with them tapering all the way down to the same opening as a slim. Tailoring might be my only option, and I’m not even that ripped haha
if you want a small leg opening and room in the thighs then you want a tapered fit not a straight fit
you'll want to either buy tapered pants or buy a straight fit that's looser in the top block - many options either way
I don’t think there are many if any options of pants with loose top block and opening between 7.5” and 8”
sure there are. levi's 550 and 560 for example
bonobos athletic fit is 7.5" as well. Also lots of brands don't listen measurements so there are probably more, just takes time to try stuff on and find what works
I agree about athletic fit though, thats why i mostly switched to relaxed/stuff with less taper. i feel like too much taper can make my proportions look unbalanced or something like that
Yeah I guess I’m just frustrated because I’m spending an exorbitant amount of time on online returns right now and still don’t have pants to wear haha.
Was much easier to find pants before I started working out
vintage 550s seem esp. tapered
like 7.5" leg openings on a relaxed fit
but to be frank i don't think a bigger leg opening will make you look like you're trying to be younger and i personally just think a bigger leg opening looks better but if you like a taper then go for it
I think there’s a regional thing that this sub overlooks. There is ~no one over the age of 25 where I live wearing anything other than slim fits (except those wearing extremely loose fits and not in a stylish way). To be clear, I also specifically don’t like a taper, but I also think there is a point where it gets too wide at the bottom. Like 501s look fine to me, but when I sized up a couple sizes to fit my thighs, it looked like I was going for a totally different style than the one I’m going for.
you could always get the leg opening tapered on a straight leg pant
but for perspective the pair of levis 550s here are 34x32 and have a leg opening of 8", a 32x32 would likely be narrower to some degree https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1221494205612949564
Levi’s has so many fits, it’s probably the best store to go back to and just try on a bunch or head to a vintage store with a bunch of old Levi’s
that is true and will also largely depend on the style you favor; i have both 550s and 501s depending on the style intended
(but honestly 550s are probably your best bet)
Just try on 550 and 560 they'll probably work for you
I'd suggest in general looking for pants called "loose tapered" or "athletic tapered" or "relaxed tapered" fit, there are a ton out there
@rcmontgomery fellow big thighs/small waist here. Check out the Kohl's brand: Sonoma goods for life. Ik it sounds like cheap generic crap but I have been impressed by the quality, and they consistently have pants that fit my thighs unlike most other brands
Also, the correct answer to this question is to buy pants that fit your thighs and then have a tailor bring in the waist and taper the bottoms
