are these done for?

okay so i may have made the terrible mistake of electing not to clean these for…five months? now i’m noticing the leather’s starting to crack. compounding the issue - these are GORE-TEX. should i just see about sending them back to danner for repairs, or can i tend to them myself?

gore-tex is just the membrane on the inside it's still normal leather on the outside.

i thought gore-tex went on the outside to keep water from getting in? that was what it sounded like looking at the website for it at least

i mean yeah i know it’s a membrane i just wasn’t sure how it was layered sorry for not having an encyclopedic knowledge of materials and having to ask questions about them i know enough about washing gore-tex leather shoes to know the instructions are slightly different because of the membrane so is it so illogical to arrive at the point of having to question if cracked leather is an issue for self-repair when that’s involved??

no its fine my b if I came off as condescending. I think the cracking is fine I doubt the leather is cracked open all the way to the membrane as I doubt the leather is that thin. Haven't worn through my gore-tex leather boots yet so I can't yell you what it'll look like when it does get the membrane.

but yea I wouldn't worry too much it's small I don't think you had the shoes long enough to worry about the leather being worn all the way to the membrane
