"The cloud-native Linux desktop of the future,
delivered today. "
so I'm trying to think of a way to say that, but also one of our catchphrases has been the idea that this is actually the present, and we're bring the desktop up to this model
like when people say "I don't know if this the THE FUTURE of Linux like people say it is." and I'm always like, hate to tell you, but we're trying to catch up to 2016 here.
showed a few coworkers, the sha-derived thing is so cool, that really wow'ed people
but also I think "from the future, delivered today" is a pretty strong statement
<-- mostly showerthinking
riffing off that - "Powered by the future, delivered today"
oooooh
I like where that's going
I agree you want a really strong catchphrase, the center of that page is a huge eye catch
fucking sick
thank you
that is raw
brutal
That's clean as hell
amazing contribution, thank you so much!
reduced the bottom margin too
way cleaner
whatever we do, let's keep "At long last, we've ascended." if anything for @jstone
thank you again
That is perfect. !
so lesser known fun fact
the flow field in the header background isn't random
it's seeded by a random ublue image name
we need to find a way to easter egg that into the site
so people can discover that.
was gonna use the sha256, but github limits calls to get it to 500/hr
so that's dead in the water
no I mean a way to make people discover that that's how we generate it
like maybe a hidden message in the source or something
oooh, maybe in the motd?
this we can do
I was also thinking of using it for marketing
indeed.
IE:
matching whatever image generated the bg
that can come later tho
also means as we graduate more images that background is gonna get more shapes 🙂
thats rad I love little things like that
yeah!
"Should we finish F40?" "NO MORE EASTER EGGS."
from a design perspective, it's really sleek
@Kyle Gospo
BlueBuild  Universal Blue
"We think it is important for users to have insight on the health of the projects they depend on. Here's a quick summary of contributions across the Universal Blue organization. " is on the old website, can we add that under metrics?
oh and keep the link to repobeats -- that team includes members of the original Unity team so it's also a great easter egg
the waht
they make those little contribution charts we use
my reasoning is I hate when distros don't share metrics on users
and I wanna be like "nope, that's 1990s linux, we will share our metrics with our community"
adding repobeats now
this is kind of a public place to ask, but is aurora going to be showcased eventually?
oh, or just add it to the footer, whatever looks best
I'd love to find a place for aurora and cosmic
but let's give them a cycle to get fleshed out.
I've been thinking about how fedora did an "emerging" section for silverblue/kinoite for a while
oh right yea before it was called atomic on their site, silverblue/kinoite/etc were emerging
yeah, and ghcr.io will have the image pulls, I suspect both will get users relatively quickly, and aurora would probably go first since cosmic is still alpha
like I suspect the aurora pulls will grow quickly
"The users will tell us"
And of course, ultimately it depends on what @Niklas âš¡ wants to do of course.
i saw the links in mission link to the github markdown files, is that how we're doing that or link to the mission statement on the discourse eventually?
doesnt really matter
they can be made into pages
just more work rn
and they're WIP to begin with
i can help with that whenever 🫡
maybe
little html/css edits here and there 😄
This guy doing WIP like a VIP
I'll spin up an example flat single page here soon
that can be filled with whatever
and named accordingly
Maintain it, grow it, make it more awesome (i have to make the website finally)
yeah lots of the wording has lots of jorgeisms in it too, especially the top of the page with the feature list.
We should for sure include it in all the F40 announcements, all that stuff
and I'll add it to the dino website as well
Universal Blue - Powered by the future, delivered today
Universal Blue is a diverse set of images using Fedora Atomic's OCI support as a delivery mechanism. That's nerdspeak for the ultimate Linux client!
Those are hooked up now with simple pages
https://ublue-os.github.io/universal-blue-org/mission.html
Text alignment on mobile firefox
should be fixed, along with a ton of other stuff
added "Universal Blue" text to header that only appears when you've scrolled past the full-height section at the top
reworded some stuff
cleaned up UL positioning on the flat pages
that's deploying now
This is cool! I'm gonna look at making some issues today and PRs later.
oooh thats nice in mobile
What phone do you have
The screen height
A Sony one?
ooh that's both very tall and scrunched up on mobile
Z Fold 3, but folded
Makes testing mobile ez since this candy bar ass phone is a worst case scenario
Ah lmao
Same but unfolded
btw i think answer overflow read-only idea is a good idea
i dont know how that would be implemented though
Images section is two column on tablet now
and I finished some last wording cleanup
definitely open to suggestions / PRs 🙂
I have wording suggestions for the top, but I'm 2h out from being home
that logo section really punching above it's weight, love to see it
Needs more dinosaurs for bluefin
desktop has em
@xyny Thanks, great idea!
@j0rge let's chat about that about section here
k
I think we spit it into 3 sections
Keep about and maybe reword
Make the list into its own section
And between them add a "what is cloud native" section
Which can include your video embedded too
@j0rge
split up
Does still need rewording of course
working on the wording now
ok wording done
sweet
I will bring that back rn
that and /metrics need to work, the rest of them are fine
and I think that's it!
What does metrics need?
contributing deploying now, also in footer
and I reordered social media
just gave metrics a quick pass
the link just needs to work
the /metrics
o where at?
unless you mean just adding a redirect for old ones
because you can :

yeah it 404's now, can you forward to #metrics?
on it
that's low key our most important url, it's what I've been asking people to watch so I've been mailing it out to people
this looks awesome!

ty cloudflare
Docs - Universal Blue
Planting the flag for the next generation Linux desktop
we could do a top level "Documentation" link to just redirect there?
Yep
ooh, idea, give me a spot to do small text under the metrics charts
like one of those but under the metrics
with something like
"Note: Image building is automated, it's normal for long periods of inactivity" or somesuch
Sold
oh I just realized: https://universal-blue.org/CONTRIBUTING/ could have just pointed to https://universal-blue.org/contributing.html lol
you asking for a redirect or a link on the site?
Docs - Universal Blue
Planting the flag for the next generation Linux desktop
just like that. 😄
"long periods of inactivity are normal" is probably ever english
Done
Ok, fixed a mobile issue on bazzite
Gonna give bluefin that logo pass
And then touch grass
How are we feeling about the site, should we announce or stay quiet for now?
i was going to put it in the next buzz
i think it looks great
announcing it separately today or tomorrow works for me
Our fastest website by a long margin
On phone 🙂
Odd, that should auto size
If you slide it does it fix itself?
On bazzite yes
Tried with another browser, there is fine , automatically auto size
big mistake of a PR i made ðŸ˜
i forgot the bazzite-news tag was private
fixing now
that's done so someone can't apply it to their own post
fyi
yeah i understand why
would love for it to be public if those two permissions weren't linked
i forgot
replacing it with announcements
that works
PR open now
my pr track record visualized:
Universal Blue maintains a set of base images which can be used to create new custom images from. Note that these images are lightweight by design, and do not ship with many of the enhancements of our other images. We look forward to seeing what you create from them!
@j0rge@j0rge @bsherman
@j0rge
love how it shows a snippet of the next selection
also
merge my PR
ty
we lose the anchor for https://universal-blue.org/metrics/ ?
could we make it so 404's just redirect to the root?
@bsherman @j0rge
image order is random now
here's a page load with ucore in position 1
(Base and Custom slides are always dead-last and their relative position unmodified)
NOICE!!
@j0rge gonna swap cloud native & Alumni
I just realized that'd be better under community
continues the theme
sgtm
cool cool
@j0rge
dropped the separator and reduced the padding here too
now I'm done 😉
no more boring sections
sure sure. 😄
waiting on the redhat bluetube channel to get the new video
I hope that it will be better than that one
when I see the old nebula wallpaper I get antsy lol
@Kyle Gospo are you in charge of redirects? making /tinker/ redirect to this https://blue-build.org/blog/introducing-bluebuild/ would be nice
BlueBuild
Introducing BlueBuild
Per a mutual decision, Universal Blue's old custom image tooling has now been transferred to the BlueBuild org. Here's what you should know.
some returning users have complained about the documentation vanishing, this would at least make old links work somewhat
