Cloudflare IP
I am developing a new minecraft server, and I am in charge of figuring out the IP issues. As of right now, as can not setup our IP as cloudflare owns it. I have never used cloudflare before this, and am attempting to find a way to buy it.

Just trying to understand, do you own the domain "potatoisland.net"?
No, I am trying to obtain it- I tried to find it being used online somewhere to find contact information and I could not
created a cloudflare account because I read it was registered by cloudflare
This domain isn't owned by Cloudflare, it's just managed by Cloudflare. You're not going to be able to obtain the domain without contacting the current owner and attempting to buy it from them
Yes, how do I contact them
I was able to contact the owner of potatoisland.com, but they made the contact information much easier to find
If you can't find any contact information unfortunately you won't be able to contact them
Okay thank you for the help
No problem 🙂
In general with domains, there is some way to contact them, usually proxied/protected by the registrar.
For that domain, Cloudflare has this:
Registrant Email: https://domaincontact.cloudflareregistrar.com/potatoisland.net
You can reach out that way
(You can find that in the whois)
Awesome! Thanks so much
I had no idea this existed, thank you!
I believe, at least for generic TLDs like com/net, ICANN mandates some way to contact the owner, should always be something in the whois
Everytime I sent a message it saids we ran into a problem with your request.. . hmm Im not sure what todo, If I cant find anything linked to it; is it safe to assume they might have forgot about it? And wont renew it, another question. Is there a safeperiod for people who had owned it prior? For example: In minecraft when you change your name, nobody can change their name to your prior name until 60days after. Giving you time to change back before anyone takes it.
you got an error on submitting that form, it didn't say
"Your message has been forwarded to the Registrant of xxx. Please note that the Registrant is under no obligation to respond."?
To answer your other question though. They've had it since 2019, so renewed it at least 3 times, and Auto Renew is on by default, and domains are cheap, so they might just sit on it forever.
and yes, there is what is called a redemption period of 30 days: https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/grace-2013-05-03-en, before the domain is released to everyone. and even before that, Cloudflare will send them tons of emails warning of its expiry/expiring/redemption/etc
It said 'there was an issue sending a message' bla bla bla
Okay, this is tough- ill try and send the message again
yea that's weird, try a diff browser maybe? Make sure you filled out all the fields as well. I just tried on a cf registered domain of mine and it worked & I got the message
