Recommendations for shoes
Hey guys, I’m looking to buy some new brown leather shoes, something like doc martins or Clarks sand shoes, I’m in the UK and my budget is £140 I’m not sure what’s in style atm

by clarks sand shoes do you mean wallabees or desert boots?
yea
something like this
This will depend on what the rest of your wardrobe looks like and/or how you want to dress. If you have some images of outfits or styles you like it would help people give you more relevant advice.
I want to dress casual, let me find some good pics
stuff like sweaters, long overcoats and stuff
i only have white and black airforces and new balances right now so i thought i was missing some brown dr martin type shoes
There are a couple different styles represented there but I don't think I'd recommend docs with any of the outfits you shared. Desert boots would fit right in with the 3rd one though. Also just so you're aware these outfits (especially the skinny pants) look pretty dated and off trend currently. Nothing wrong with wearing them if that's how you want to dress though.
I would wear regular fit trousers with this
Could you explain what’s out of date with them so I could avoid doing the same
Mostly just the fit. The short overcoats in 2 and 4 as well - people tend to prefer longer coats now.
Also the lack of socks in what looks like a fall/winter outfit in pic 1
My advice would be to collect more images for inspiration, especially ones that include footwear and see what types of shoes you like the best
Have a look at #waywt and #inspiration here too
(also from a practical sense it's a lot easier to wear doc 1460s or similar boots with a larger leg opening/less slim pant)
something like this?

in a vacuum both are good
for me it's a little tough to reconcile the more rugged look of either with the inspo pics you have up there
the inspo pics all fit in that same sort of mid-2010s scandinavian minimalism mode - clean lines, neutral colors, 'soft' textures with little pattern, slim fit all over - and usually in those (now dated) looks they tend to pair these with either neutral sneakers or chelsea boots to continue the sleek line
in the vein of what KANB said it might be worth checking #waywt or #inspiration or even product pictures for brown lace ups to see how they're styled and then try to merge the two different inspirations together
Yeah I'm looking through those now
ive scrolled through a lot, nothings clicked yet but i'll keep going up
im still trying to figure out what type of style i wanna do
Bit of a random question, is there any social accounts you can recommend I follow so I can find a style i like
I want something like what people in London and Paris dress as
Long coats
Would you say stuff like this is out of trend as well?
uniformdisplay covers a lot of london street style
i bet there’s watching london accts similar to watchingny on instagram as well
Like zeo said, all these pics look like mid 10s scandi minimalism. If that's what you like, search for that. if you want whats currently in style, in London/Paris, that's different and not in these pics.
Oh I see, how bad would you say it is to wear scandi minimalism compared to whats in fashion now
not bad at all it’s pretty normal
a pretty normal look
Oh thats good then, I'll go for this look I didnt know what the name for it was so this was spretty helpful thanks
this look is the one that i like the most out of any ive seen
so i guess doc martins dont really work with this type of outfit
what shoes would you say I should go for?
low profile sneakers is probably most typical
If you really want to add something that isn't a sneaker, maybe black derbies
black derbies seem a bit formal to me, what do you think about these type of sshoes
if youre getting common projects get the achilles low or the chelseas
i dont think any of their other models look good
common projects are a bit out of my budget
raisins said that because the shoes you just posted are common projects
i like white better
imo for this minimal scandi style you wanna stick to white lows.
ye
or like a converse style high top
which are also pretty low pro
oh i see, i didnt know what shoes they were that makes sense
ill look at these thanks

something like this?
ill look for them in white
black derbies can be casual or formal, a lot depends on the rest of the fit
but the standard is a low profile white sneaker
you can probably get away with a chunky white sneaker with less tapered trousers
I already have white new balances so I think I might get those in brown ( not black since i already have black airforces ) so they dont hit the same market
i'm not sure brown shoes necessarily fit the style you are seeking to emulate (be it Parisienne style or scandi minimalism or the sampling of inspo pics)
yea that is true, I might not buy any shoes for now then, I just thought i was missing a color only having white and black shoes
This thread helped a lot though, it put a name to the style I want to imitate and i was having trouble finding inspiration
nice! i would take a look as well at some of the articles in #fashion-guides especially these https://malefashionadvice.substack.com/p/a-step-by-step-guide-to-starting https://malefashionadvice.substack.com/p/building-outfits-that-work https://malefashionadvice.substack.com/p/developing-personal-style

Oh nice, I've read building outfits that work and it helped a lot, i didnt see these other two
plus keep using #questions-and-advice and #styling-suggestions if you're ever questioning a particular thing. there's a degree of experimentation needed as you figure your style out but you don't have to go into poverty to do so
yea ive already made a lot of threads its pretty helpful
ive still iffy on how colours go together
this is a good primer in general https://malefashionadvice.substack.com/p/understanding-color

you may also want to look into monochrome fits (currently highlighted in #theme-waywt ) or the biomimicry theory (tl;dr if the colors appear in nature together they'll go together in fits but Google for more)
