Weird VS Installer interaction with phantom disk
Hi everyone !
Recently, i changed for an SSD instead of my HDD that i was using since i had my PC. I was coding on it and pretty much everything else but my OS was on a small SSD i set up the first time i had this pc too. So in the process of that 'upgrade', i wanted to re-install Visual Studio but the installer simply doesn't let me. It still 'think' the old HDD is here and i can't seem to change that in any way i know.
What should i do ?
One the screen shot it says that the disk D: doens't have enough space, duh , it's not even IN the computer, but it doesn't let me change that either. Am i doomed ?

In the first screen we can see the shared components section in the last input but it's disabled, i just can't change that, why ?
VS isn't open sourced, so even if anyone here wants to help, he/she has no way to know the internals.
Report a problem with Visual Studio - Visual Studio (Windows)
Report a problem in Visual Studio by using the product installer or the built-in Feedback Tool, which allows you to easily add diagnostic information.
I'll try that thank you, but if anyone has a fix for now i'll take it. I saw many ppl having the same issue on blogs i went to 😢
Well tonight is my night i guess, i finally found the solution. I'll post it here so everyone can have it.

In short, the shared componenents file is set up during the very first installation of VS in your computer. It creates a registry key with the local path that was set during the first installation. Find it, don't delete it simply modifiy where u cant it to be installed, and give it a go !
