can you get to a tty? (CTRL+ALT+F3 or F4?)
and login and type in
lsmod | grep amdgpu
as the card should be supported in the fsync kernel i believe
if it does not return anything about amdgpu then try add this
to /etc/modprobe.d/amdgpu.conf
and rebootI will be trying this asap . thank you for the quck replay .. also do you know if game-scope works with this GPU?
no idea, it has to support vulkan and the correct extensions for vulkan
i know it works the rx570 (meaning it should work on rx470 too)
so dont be surprised if it does not work due to how old that gpu is (if youre talking about gamescope-session)
I just wanted to be used as a "steam machine" and play my older games gpu is kinda weak .. but is the same chip as the hd 7790. So maybe play some of the harder to run games at 900p and use the built in FSR to upscale to 1080p .. and also add emu deck or retro deck etc etc .. just want to put the little pc back to work lol.
yeah but gamescope-session (gamemode) might not run so you might be limited to desktop image with steam big picture mode
so if you installed the deck image, it might explain the black screen if the card is not supported by gamescope
the good thing is that you can rebase to the non deck image without reinstalling π
bummer .. did't want to use the desktop but I guess i could auto login and auto start steam .. but i would be missing out on all the gamescope goodness . True that the hardware is old . It was meant to be a lowend steam machine back then.. would have been nice to see it come full circle
that GPU doesnt have vulkan 1.3+ support either im afraid
well rip
which not only means no game mode
but you will have to try older proton builds and may need to use the slower opengl translation
π¦ okay ... well I guess ill use it with batocera linux or maybe jelos x86..but ill do a desktop install for a bit see how it goes with auto login etc etc .
i would imagine the computer would be great as a retro console at least with batocera π
older and emulation would work fine yea
plus batocera would at least give you the htpc feel you miss out with the lack of gamescope support
newer titles without proper vulkan support on linux is not very good
I know my PC is old , but still very usable . thank you all for tips and help
np!
i love giving new life to old stuff, its why my laptop is like 10 years old
