@Noel ya know how in one of the recent audio chats I switched to bazzite and I my usb mic audio kept cutting out and i was hearing static...?
well... i built myself a custom bazzite with stock (not fsync) kernel and it fixed the audio for me.
I know the bazzite-default fsync kernel (https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/sentry/kernel-fsync/) provides a lot of hardware support which is needed for handhelds and other specific systems, plus some general improvements... but on desktop, for me... probably better to not use it.
it WOULD be interesting if we could find what patch causes the issue though
and it COULD be 2 different issues...
1) static on my audio output
2) usb mic cutting out
and I told @Kyle Gospo I'd give feedback, too. 🙂

Interesting, looking over the patches now
yeah, i looked through them a bit as well, but didn't find anything incredibly obvious
Maybe System76-Scheduler is causing this issue
no, i rebuilt a custom bazzite, only reverting the fsync kernel to stock kernel and it fixes my issues
for the record since a lot of the patches are hardware specific... I'm running
AMD Ryzen 7 5700G (not using the integrated APU)
Asus ROG Strix B550-XE Gaming Wifi
Radeon 6700 XT
so it's the Renoir Radeon High Definition Audio Controller which is having static on it's SPDIF output
but a USB microphone that's cutting out on me
@Jan Looping you in on this, not the only report of weird audio, but the first to figure out removing fsync changes anythng about it
its worth noting that it doesn't have to be a patch
we also modify the config and add a bunch of usb stuff
Reports so far seem to be
1: HDMI Audio out on AMD
2: A single USB mic
1 could possible be caused by the HDR patch
also, its not a given that this is caused by the kernel
yeah, trying to reproduce on my end
I've been having this issue myself very infrequently when pipewire-pulse dies
mic cuts out, headset spews some small bit of noise before it corrects itself
i get this on my desktop
usb mic is plugged in
small buzzing noises occasionally
couldn't tell if it was my system or my cheap Logitech speakers lol. I didn't notice this with headphones. Seemed to happen when I launched GTA V
I agree my test is not yet conclusive, and I’m happy to test more.
But I’m somewhat confident it’s somehow tied to the kernel swap given how consistent the problems were before vs none after.
want to add that i havent encountered it tonight
