If not, what is the best way to care for this product to make sure it is waterproof as best as possible and that it lasts a long time?

Suede jackets are very delicate and are not really good for wearing in the rain. You can spray them with renovateur if you want though and it will help somewhat. I'd still try to avoid rain.

Suede is not delicate, can get wet just fine. Leather is tanned in a liquid. It may dull down the nap a little bit, but a suede brush will bring it back up.
I’m an umbrella guy, and would have no qualms about wearing a suede jacket in the rain with an umbrella, but I wouldn’t look to suede as my first option in wet weather
You don’t need to do anything to it
Just wear it
Spot clean with a damp cloth as needed
