is a nylon/wool cardigan worth it?
So I saw this cardigan I really like its 298£ on mr porter and it is a really nice design the brand is le 17 septembre I like the brand and would like to own something from them but the cardigan is 90% nylon and only 10% wool the design and shape of the cardigan looks amazing and the texture looks great it is boucle and the colour is nice its navy.
Generally Ive been told to avoid these man made fabrics like nylon but is there a chance that something like this cardigan can be of good quality since its from this brand and is on mr porter or is all nylon bad especially since im not buying active wear just a cardigan I suppose it being waterproof due to the nylon is good but part of me feels like I am being ripped of for this price and a cardigan that is only 10% wool and I am mainly buying the logo?

Woah, I don’t even know where to start. It’s not going to be waterproof because it’s nylon for one
But it sounds like you want to be encouraged to buy it?
oh well they said its waterproof tbh I dont really care about that aspect of the cardigan I just like how it looks
What does quality even mean here. It's not gonna tear, it's also not going to be as warm as if it was full wool. The nylon makes it more bearable over short sleeves and in warmer weather, and is cheaper to manufacture. It's a Korean brand so you are likely paying import fees in that price.
It being on mr porter has nothing to do with its quality, though very few clothes will just self destruct by wearing
yh I quite like ive had my eye on it for a month still thinking about it
thats true
300 is just a lot of money for me for a sweater im not sure about, but everyone’s circumstances are different
So if you can afford it, and think it’ll make you happy, why not?
can always return if it doesn’t

yh I get what you mean by questioning what does quality mean I always assumed it just means that buying natural fabric products, its hard for me to say what high quality means if I am honest but I always here people saying to buy natural made fibres since they last longer I guess but thanks for the reply
100% I am gonna wait for a further sale or buy second hand but still wanted an extra opinion thank you
real
Quality is a meaningless metric, and 90% of people saying it can't define it
I don’t think it’s meaningless at all, but it’s much much harder to tell when you can’t see the piece, or see how it looks after years of wash and wear
Cool, it is meaningless tho
Sure man, you’re right
yh I guess checking for loose fabric and seeing if buttons are re inforced
but thats not nylons fault : (
Nah it’s meaningless
Didn’t you hear smiles
Quality can mean durability to one person like clothes fall apart if you glance at them wrong. It can mean fabric to another, where they like the specific textile and it's properties. It can mean design to another.
Completely arbitrary
And if your clothes are falling apart is 90% how you are cleaning them
Arbitrary != meaningless
Makes it meaningless as a metric
Yah bro, that guys 18east khadi carpenters came apart at the seams because he washed them wrong, not because they didn’t account for needing more seam allowance for a looser weave
Just cause 18 East is incompetent doesn't make quality suddenly useful
anyway, ending this back and forth from my end
Bye
Anyway, if you like the design, but don't like the nylon, it might be worth seeing how unique the design is.
Another brand might make something similar in a textile you prefer

thats the link I love the little badge on the back of the cardigan too
I think its leather or something
Love the cut and the the way the fabric looks
same but its so expensive hopefully can get it second hand
Searching for utility shirt might give similar results
I saw another jacket from them years ago and it was too expensive but I saw it last week on depop for quite cheap and bought it : )
The crop+width is really nice, reminds me of Lemaire pieces
yes but for my height I would probs pefer an inch off by looking at the measurements im 5 8
Could also try work shirt as a search term
tbh on this point, I think trying to get a read on the "quality" through the material composition is a losing battle, there are high quality nylon clothes and low quality wool clothes out there, and nylon will have some properties that wool will not and vice versa. You're better off checking if it's a reputable brand (not familiar with this specific one but it seems fine) and examining the item in hand, and you might be able to take advantage of mrporters return policy for this.
and on the point of synthetics, they can have utility over natural fibers, you can find some high end brands mixing in a little nylon in their wool coats because a little bit of nylon can greatly increase the durability of a fabric over 100% wool
yh but this 90% nylon I probs wouldnt question it so much if there was more wool but I guess youre right about seeing it in person
yeah if its a well made garment and you like it and you can't personally tell if it's nylon or wool anyway then that shouldn't stop you
To you it is maybe. Not to me. Wear your crap quality stuff if you want.
What would you define as good quality if you don’t mind me asking I’m still trying to figure it out lol
given that that cardigan apparently is not lined i would be concerned about skin feel, especially if you're wearing it as an outer layer during the rain
if you ultimately land on 'no i dislike the fact this has 90% nylon' then the brand also makes this similar product https://www.mrporter.com/en-gb/mens/product/le-17-septembre/clothing/overshirts/cotton-corduroy-overshirt/1647597310035672
