issues with gamescope on the steam deck not filling out the whole screen

When I use my steam deck on the dock and actually manage to get it connect, when I launch a game it only takes up the center of the screen leaving a very large black border around the edges. This seems reproducible with every game I've tried. I think that there needs to be some sort of scaling implemented. I don't remember this behavior on Steam OS.

guide+a (or QAM button on the deck) and battery then change scaling to fit or fill. its an aspect ratio thing. you can set the default in the gamescope session ui by going to the same location

Your TV looks like it’s not set to fill the screen, or your Deck isn’t set to scale the resolution Either way, it looks like 800p is being sent and interpreted 1:1

see the first picture - it is drawing 4k edge to edge just fine it goes from the full screen interface to the one on the right once the game launches

is the game set to full screen? if it's windowed, gamescope will likely use whatever window size it was last launched with and if you have scaling turned off that's exactly how it'd behave also make sure you haven't overriden the resolution for that game in properties

Oddly rebooting and reconnecting the deck worked
