Buying a suit

Hi everyone. I am trying to buy a suit on eBay but have no idea where to even start. Have bought tailored suits before but find it really expensive and would like to possibly buy a saville row or Ralph Lauren Purple Label suit on eBay and then having it altered. Any tips would be much appreciated. Cheers

Well do you have a good idea of what's your size? Do you already have any tailored jackets that fit you well that you can measure?

First of all beware of anything labeled "savile row" - it's sort of a marketing gimmick and there are bad brands / mall brands that use that term. RLPL makes great clothing but tends to be quite expensive even secondhand

The PTO suit filter is a good place to start. I'd get rid of Suitsupply and Spier though.

It is important to measure one of your suits that fits you well and check the measurements against the ones in the listing

unless you have an urgent need for a suit right away it's best to take the time to look for something good and good quality a high quality brand means nothing if it doesn't fit or if it's in poor condition

I haven't bought a complete suit, but I have bought a number of blazers. To have the best chance of success, you need to know more than "I'm roughly size 42". It helps a LOT if you already have a blazer that fits you that you can take measurements from: pit-to-pit, shoulder, sleeve, length, and waist. Don't buy anything that isn't returnable. Factor in the cost of dry cleaning and alterations. If you find a listing that looks promising, you can post it here for feedback.
