i respect those that are inspired by it because i definitely don't see it for me
Next fit battle is revenge of team goth for sure
i do like when it intersects (either in items or just vibe) with other aesthetics - goth and tech are obvious but it makes things like streetwear or minimalism more interesting
i think these days "goth" is a pretty largely used umbrella term for "all black and edgy" so if we're going by that definition, i do love my yohji and my comme and silver jewelry with crosses and skulls. even "mall goth" i think can be fun with the edgy jewelry and platform boots ... also goth makeup ❤️
"from: sallo in: waywt has: image"
i wonder is "all black" a requirement/the requirement nowadays? i think whatever cultural context for goth existed 20, 30 years ago has eroded or diluted with time but also there's a definite distinction between it and like, minimal hype beast ino
it was never really a requirement imo but a common association
Even the avant garde stinky boys release something in bright red, yellow or pink every once in a while
I like the gloomy, austere vibes.
You could talk in circles all day about the ethos behind the style that gets reduced down to "goth" but the long and the short of it is authenticity is very important, just like with punk, and that comes from not just dressing the part but having the right attitude and lifestyle.
The right music taste, hair, makeup, friends, politics, etc etc all elevate black clothing into goth style but that's kinda the old way of looking at things, for better or for worse.
I'm grateful for those roots even if I don't tick all the boxes, just as I'm continuously interested and excited by designers that take that foundation into crazy new directions by blending it with other subcultures and influences.
goth is fun. sometimes the way i dress filters into it, even if it's not my first preference. traditional goth in particular is a nice way to dress up if your usual look is grungy; you're not leaving the general edge behind, and you can still meet whatever imaginary "opulence quota" you're staring in the face for the event.
in a way i do fall under the umbrella, i think, but i don't know enough about the ideology off the top of my head to say it with certainty. i do tick off almost every box for the punk ideology though. (exceptions being DIY, rather than the typical leftist leaning)
I've always wanted to get more into Goth fashion but it's usually too hot and humid here for it
I feel like im not skinny enough for the style anymore
u dont need to be skinny to dress goth...
like womans skinny jeans scene boys are not it
I saw an entire parade of Goths in harajuku in June, 35c out and somehow not melting, honestly amazing dedication
Black linen is the key, and even lighter weight black wools can be really nice in warmer temperatures
Cuts with volume to get some air flow around your skin are pretty important too
