I think I need a new haircut. Maybe? Probably.
Like a lot of men in their middle-30s, I found a haircut about a decade ago and settled on it. I’ve been getting 0.5 tapered on the side with a little bit off the top for years, and I'm not mad about it — but I'm also wondering where else I might be able to go when I sit in my barber’s chair next week.
I’ve got pretty thick, cowlick-y hair; my hairline has receded a little bit in the year or two but is mostly still all there. When my hair gets longer, it tends to puff out, which is why I go so short on the fade when I get it cut – it grows like a weed. When it's short, the cowlicks on the front of my scalp basically grow like devil horns.
I’m pretty active here but if you haven’t seen my style, it’s pretty much amalgamated MFA house style: denim, fatigues, workwear, some big pants, etc. Honestly, it’s probably pretty incoherent!
Anyways, here are some pictures throughout the years of it groomed, and some ghastly shots of the mop I'm dealing with now.
Please help.

You look damn good in that first Picture with The suit
Not sure if that helps But i like that look
Beard suits you as Well
Might be interesting to grow it out a little and get it more vertical with some product, David Lynch style
I also have really coarse hair, and one thing that helped me when it was longer was getting a kind of aggressive taper on the sides, "two block" style.
12 pell was a good resource for that
Since you have a longer face a flat top might work well
Yeah that's sort of where I am right now, I think letting it leave a bit more length on the top but keeping the sides short so it doesn't puff out.
