Website Timing Out - Oversseer | Nginx | Reverse Proxy | Unifi UDM Pro
Working on setting up reverse proxy for Overseerr so site is accessible over HTTPS for friends/family. Overseer is running as a Docker container and is available locally via hostname and IP (10.0.0.180) through port 5055.
I have a domain ‘mydomain.com’ through Namecheap as well as a free Cloudflare account acting as the CDN. I have an A record in CloudFlare with name ‘requests’ pointing to my public IP address – I want users to be able to access Overseerr using https://requests.mydomain.com.
For the reverse proxy, I installed Nginx Proxy Manager as a Docker container (using Portainer) on my Ubuntu server with port 443 forwarding to port 443 and 80 to port 80 using an SSL Certificate through Let’s Encrypt. The NPM admin page runs on port 81. I followed these steps to configure NPM with Overseer https://smarthomepursuits.com/how-to-install-nginx-proxy-manager-in-docker/.
I have a Unifi Dream Machine Pro as my router/gateway with Port Forwarding records for port 443 forwarding to 10.0.0.180:443 and 80 forwarding to 10.0.0.180:80.
Prior to having the reverse proxy configuration, the site was available via HTTP with a wild card A record setup on NameCheap and port 80 forwarding to 10.0.0.180:5055 on my router.
I followed this tutorial to setup Cloudflare https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GarMdDTAZJo.
When I go to https://requests.mydomain.com I get a gateway time-out error 504
I found a log file in the Overseerr container (/data/logs) that generates the following message when the page times-out:
upstream timed out (110: Connection timed out) while connecting to upstream, client: 172.70.100.196, server: requests.mydomain.com, request: "GET /favicon.ico HTTP/2.0", upstream: "http://10.0.0.180:5055/favicon.ico", host: "requests.mydomain.com", referrer: https://requests.mydomain.com/
I feel like I am right at the finish line, but I can’t figure out what is missing or setup incorrectly. I’m ready to freak out!
