Biography The girl who had to turn her back on everyone to get what she wanted, Antonella Castro grew up on the Western coast of Argentina. For her family, money was tight. Her parents worked long hours to support such a large family. At a young age, Antonella was fascinated with the ways of the water; she could nearly touch the sea by sticking her hand out her bedroom window. Every day after school, and while her parents were at work, Antonella’s Grandmother who they called Abuela Estela would take Antonella and her older brothers, Luis and Carlos down to the day to tell stories about the luxurious beauty of the sea. Though Luis and Carlos were more interested in searching for seashells and beach glass to show their friends, Antonella stayed at Estela’s side. Lost in the stories of her youth, she learned that Abuela’s parents would take her down to the very beach they were sitting at now. Digging her toes into the sand, Estela took Antonella’s hand and closed her eyes, telling her to feel the breeze through her hair and smell the saltiness of the sea. Antonella did just that. Imagining a beautiful, luscious island that her family could live on without worry. They could climb palm trees for coconuts, wanter through humid jungles, and play games with her brothers – it was her own paradise. Calling out her name, Antonella turned around to see her Mother waving them inside for dinner. Retaking hold of Estela’s hand, the two stood up and made their way inside. Estela took the kids down to the bay for weeks, and with each visit, they would get closer to the water. Teaching the three children how to respect and care for the water, they would dance and sing until they could see the sunset behind them. Every night, as Antonella set on her bed, she would look out her window, gazing at the reflection of the moon and the stars, glistening in the waves. Before she fell asleep, Antonella heard a knock at her door. Snapping her head over her shoulder, she could see Abuela Estela with a warm smile on her face. Taking a seat at the end of her bed, her hand tucked a braid behind Antonella’s ear. Guiding her head down to her pillow, she closed her eyes once more, and as Estela began to hum a song, she drifted into a deep sleep. “Buenas noches, mi princesa,” Estela whispered in her ear before shutting her door. As years passed, Antonella started to visit the sea much less with her Abuela. Estela came to be regularly hospitalized as she became very sick. With each passing day, Antonella wandered down to the shore to remind herself about the love and comfort she once shared in having something with Estela. Trudging across the damp sand, Antonella would pick up seashells, just as her brothers used to. Any time she returned home, she would rush to put her collections into a glass vase, wanting to give it to Estela as a gift. On the night before her final year of high school, Antonella’s parents rushed to the hospital as Estela’s heart was beginning to fall. They couldn’t help but watch from a distance as they saw her soul wish away from her body, and in doing everything they could, she passed away that same night. Back home, Antonella couldn’t help but think about her Abuela. It wasn’t fair that someone so loving and cheerful deserved to have their life taken away. Looking out her window, trails of tears rolled down her face. Getting up from her bed, she wandered over to her vase – it was full. Dumping out the contents, she noticed there was a rolled-up piece of paper hidden beneath the shells. Opening it, she whispered the poem to herself. By the water's edge, we’d sit so still. Abuela’s wisdom was a precious thrill. In the shimmering waves, my spirit will play. Antonella, see my love, every sunlit spray. Flipping over the note, she could see that the date was from yesterday. Wiping the tears from her cheeks, she put on a robe and slippers, then trudged down to the beach with the vase. Dipping her toes in the water, it was cold, but as she sat back down on the sand, she looked at the vase one last time. Smashing it with a rock, she couldn’t help but drop her head into her lap. For minutes, Antonella tried to calm herself, feeling a soft touch on her shoulder, she turned to see her mother sitting down too. “Are you okay, mi hija?” her voice was calm. Touching Antonella’s braid she had a comforting smile. “You know she loved you very much, I’m sure she’s watching down on us right now.” Staring deep into the ocean, Antonella stopped crying. Relief surged through her body, she knew her mother was right – Estela wasn’t hurting anymore. After that night, things were always different. Antonella would wander up and down the shore for months, looking for any sign of Estela. A profound emptiness that seemed impossible to fill wanted a constant and lingering feeling. The ocean, once her home, has become a feeling of sorrow. With each crashing wave, it was as if the ocean itself mourned the loss of Estela. At school, she was constantly shrouded by grief and despair. The vibrant spirit had quickly dimmed out, and the feeling of joy became rare. Though she continued to visit the shore, it wasn’t to search for mementos to put in vases but rather to seek a connection with the memories of her beloved Abuela. Sitting on the same stretch of beach where she once learned so much, Antonella would try to talk to Estela in the stillness of the night. Having constant dreams that turned into nightmares, Antonella’s desire to follow in Estela’s footsteps grew with each wake. Soon going to the University of Buenos Aires to become a marine biologist, she dedicated her life to studying the sea that she had loved so much. Years came and went, and her reputation as a brilliant and passionate young scientist grew. With groundbreaking research on marine ecosystems, Antonella knew there was more to life than attending school. During a research expedition near the Galapagos, a withered feeling struck her once more. Studying the diverse marine life, she stumbled upon a hidden underwater cave. Inside, hundreds of ancient relics hinted at a secret world beneath the waves, a whole world of untold mystery. Though Antonella’s discovery didn’t go unnoticed, the University’s rival organization has been monitoring her research, and spying on her every move. They saw potential in Antonella to unlock more of the cave’s secrets, and they were willing to do anything to control her. One night, as she returned to her lab, a group of armed men blocked her in every direction. Surrounding Antonella, they demanded that she hand over the relics she found to them. They reassured her that they were the ones keeping them there. Threatening to arrest her, she had no choice but to give them up. Though she gave them away, the men continued to get closer. Taking hold of her hands, she was blindfolded as she began to hear the whirring blades of a helicopter. Knocking her out for what seemed like hours, she was dumped on an abandoned island in the middle of the ocean, and the paradise she once imagined soon turned into a burning hell. Days turned into weeks as Antonella struggled to survive on the island. She was haunted by the knowledge that her actions had put her life in danger, but also the fragile ecosystem and secrets of the cave. Feeling a deep sense of shame and regret, there was nothing she could do. Wandering the edges of the island, there were only so many grains of sand between the forest and the waves. Noticing washed-up pieces of debris, Antonella ran over to see if there was anything useful. Rummaging through piles of wooden crates, they were all empty. Though they weren’t empty, the crates contained pieces of a flare gun, and when Antonella realized that she could save herself, she scrambled to assemble it. Staring off into the sunset, her throat was dry, and her feet were wet. It was as if there was an endless void surrounding her. Lifting her arm into the air, she pulled the trigger. A bright red beam of light shot into the air, illuminating the sky around her. The flare went off. Sitting back on the sand, Antonella scoffed at the idea that she would truly be saved. There was no one around for dozens of miles. Laying on her back, her hysterical laughing could only be heard by herself. That was until she heard the sound of an approaching helicopter. Worried that it was the same men from before, she quickly got up and ran to the edge of the forest. Landing the helicopter on the sand, she saw a group of people jump out holding flashlights and guns. “We saw the flare!” one called out. “We’re here to help,” the voice continued. The woman took off her mask. “Over here!” Antonella shouted out. Sticking out her hand and running out of the forest, she approached the group as they covered her in light. Offering support, a man rushed over to cover her in a blanket. “Brimstone,” he said. “But you can call me Liam.” wrapping his hand around Antonella, she finally felt safe. Approaching the two, she introduced herself to Antonella as Viper. They let her know that they’re a part of the VALORANT Protocol and they got a signal when she set off the flare as it was a part of their missing supplies. Flying Antonella back to their headquarters, Brimstone congratulated her on the efforts she made through her studies. He recognized her worth, and with a unanimous decision, she was offered a spot in their roster as the 25th Agent. -- Profile In-Game Description: Argentinian marine biologist, Antonella Castro, otherwise known as Envoy, holds her beliefs above anything else.
