Tailoring a larger blazer?
Hey all!
I'm trying to buy my first blazer and save some money. I have lots of good thrift stores around that have tons of blazers in stock.
If I buy a larger blazer that doesn't fit - to what extent can it be tailored? I guess how closely to my actual size do I need to find for a tailor to work with?

Changing the fit of the shoulders is hard/expensive.
Shortening sleeves is usually easy. So is adjusting the fit of the waist.
You want to find something as close as possible, maybe a little big.
it largely depends on what's being altered (sleeve length vs shoulder length), usually within 1 size off can be adjusted
if you're getting something lengthened or let out, the suit will need additional fabric to account for it
But you can't just buy something that's way oversized and "trim to fit".
^ also that. it's worth taking the time to get something as close to well fitting at the shoulder in particular
Get something which fits in the shoulders and has a body length you are comfortable with
most other things can be altered. i.e. sleeve length and waist supression
show us a photo wearing the jacket and we can give you our thoughts.
Definitely find something that fits in the shoulders. Don't make the same mistake as me and buy jackets that are too big for you in the shoulders. Shoulders are a very difficult alteration
