Tightening the waist of a sweater
Hi all, first question here.
I have a nice thick-knit wool sweater, with a cinched waist. However the waist is a bit loose, and I'd like it to be a bit tighter so that I can wear it as more of a cropped look. Is this something I can get done in a tailor or elsewhere?

Basically no not really
There are some diy ways to try and shrink just the hem back a bit but any modifications on a fully knit garment like that are really hard
My recommendation would be to wet just the hem lightly then dry with a hair dryer on a drying rack laying flat
But that said, you can do some sort of unclean style tailoring if you’re not precious to take in the hemline on the sides it’s just not gonna be neat
Is it real knit or machine “knit”?
If it’s real knit you should be able to do something about it
Appreciate the advice! Might talk to a tailor/seamstress and see if they can macgyver something
It's a machine knit, sadly I don't have the skills to create for myself
totally fair - i’m lucky my grandma can haha. if it had been real your other option would’ve been to go to a wool shop/haberdashery and ask for some advice. Options are gonna be minimal for machine knit i’d say as it’s usually technically not actually knitted iirc
Okay good to know. It's not that nice a sweater so I'm happy for someone to mess around with it a bit
You can get elastic thread and sew through the inside of the hem. I just did this to an old sweater that wouldn’t stay up and it worked great.
