steam does not remember password; game mode blank screen

Hi folks, I'm just trying out Bazzite for the first time. Install went fine however I have two problems which I thought might be related: 1) Steam will not remember my credentials. Every time I open steam, it asks for login like it's the first time, despite populating my username in registry.vdf under AutoLoginUser 2) Game mode does not work, I just get a blank screen. I thought maybe this was because it could not log into steam in order to open Big Picture mode etc Every time I reboot, I just get the blank screen. steamos-session-select plasma (either from a tty or ssh) gets me back to the desktop ok. I have tried rpm-ostree upgrade but it doesn't do anything because I'm already on the latest (I only downloaded the ISO earlier today). Any ideas?

I thought maybe it could be related to kwallet so I trashed it and created a new one; doesn't seem like steam uses it though. I also tried deleting the ~/.steam directory but that didn't help either.

If steam crashes too many times it'll reset settings and ask for a login Issue is likely gamescope not working triggering the log out I suspect it's due to your Intel GPU Gamescope has very limited support for them The desktop image and big picture mode should work for you as an alternative Can easily rebase to it

Thanks for the reply! Even if I stay in desktop mode the whole time, open steam, log in, exit steam, open it right back up. Still asks for log in. AFAIK Steam has not crashed at all. RE gamescope; what is the expected behaviour when entering game mode while steam is logged out? Should it still display something rather than black screen with cursor?

it should show you an account selection screen (assuming someone has signed in at least once)

Hmmm ok. I'm gonna try reinstalling then maybe I'll give up and put it down to the Intel graphics. I wanted to have some confidence that things work smoothly before buying a graphics card for this machine. Basically it's a dell optiplex I was previously using as a router that I was going to promote to TV gaming PC. But I'd need to get a low profile GPU for it. Thanks for the help both
