He was just 5stacking.
-> as a 5stack, any rank can play with any other rank. so 4 iron1 players can play with a radiant player, or 3 plat players can play with 1 iron player [...].
let me explain in a picture:
You team has 30 points, if i count them correctly.
The enemy team has 31 points in total.
So 30 v 31 is technically a fair match, not looking at the skillgap right there.
radiant = 25p
So a team with 4 iron1s + 1 radiant = 29 points.
in a 5stack, they could be playing against 4 bronze1s and 1 plat1.
or 1 gold3 + 1 gold1 + 2 iron2s + 1 iron1
or [...]

In your friends case: **keep in mind, that the unrated players do have a rating too, just not a rank already. so 15 points diff on 3 unrated players -> each unrated has 5 points (bronze 2) on average
