cheap boots recommendations
Hey guys, in a few weeks I'm going to spend 5 months in Lithuania and it's much colder/they have more snow than here in France, I really need a pair of boots to survive the winter! My budget is about 200€, better if cheaper. I know that's quite limiting and I'm not looking for a super premium boot, but yeah if you guys have any favorites in that price range let me know 😄 Ty

Blundstone is around there, the classic model is the 500. They have winter models too. Looks like they have one exclusive stockist in France, but they don't have many options (no 500 either). You could get them from Australia, but I imagine that would be quite expensive.
Second this. I wear my Blundstone all winter in Toronto. Similar lows as Lithuania. They also have an insulated version I believe. 200€ should be plenty for those. Should be able to ship online anywhere.
Solovair have a lined Chelsea boot (dealer boot) for cold weather
I would use meermin boots + wool socks https://eu.meermin.com/collections/mens-boots

thanks yall 😄 had a look at all of those
Honestly they all sound great
blundstone is probably a little more "workwear" than what I'd like though
the solovairs are impossible to get a hold of with all the good sizes being sold out on their site and no local retailers having them...
when it comes to the meermin, they look pretty great for the price tbh
What's throwing me off is how poorly they're rated online... https://www.trustpilot.com/review/meermin.es
Did you ever order from them online and have you ever had an issue?

while looking online for alternatives in the region I came accross a brand named Mephisto, does anyone here have experience with it?
I see they have some made in France chelsea boots (some even being goodyear welted) for a little over my budget but they look pretty good
everything else I see locally is either very expensive (500€+, most french brands that have shops in my town) or very poor quality according to reviews online
then there's also the french brand Bexley which is quite cheap but all of them that have a grippier outsole are just glued

Thoughts on these? if there's anything that stands out in a bad way or such
I see I have a local retailer carrying these for under retail with a shop in my town, I'll have a look in person

I cant seem to find info on whether they can be resoled or not
They dont mention the stitching technique anywhere which is kind of sus, especially when they do for some other models
not that it matters that much but yeah
Mephisto make ok shoes.
Meermin have a pretty expensive returns process, many people don't like it. But at the price point you generally have to compromise somewhere.
Returns are expensive and their customer service blows most of the time.
the problem with Bexley is that most if not all of thier products have Danite style soles which can get slippery in winter
They have some boots with nice rubber soles but they're just glued on with no stitching of any kind...
I guess can't expect much when they're so cheap but yeah
Gotcha ty
no, I think most Bexley boots are sewn with Blake Stitch https://harttermanly.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/goodyear-img-1.jpeg but what I was talking about is my problem with the "sole pattern"
eg. these https://www.bexley.com/media/catalog/product/cache/906ae4fa6fb3024c53a8cefa99b208d4/0/1/0126400a-enfieldiigommecountry_chocolat_patine_5.jpg is a Dainite style sole, those buds are kind of slippery during winter

All those with that kind of sole are glued, it's written on the product page for them

Honest question, do you think you'd ever pay the c$150 to resole a boot or would you just buy new ones?
Would you be so attached to them they'd last you forever or would you get bored and get something new?
It's not about resoling as much as I don't want them to separate in half
Basic stitching is a thing even on Nike sneakers and yeah I just want something sturdy
Idk if it's a misconception on my part that glued=bad
Resolabilty isn't my top priority
I have glued shoes (hiking boots!) that are nearly twenty years old. They're fine.
It's also very easy (and cheap) to reglue a glued sole.
Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of reasons to buy stitched shoes but it's not a definitive marker of "quality".
Thanks 🙂
With the overwhelming amounts of info I find online it can get quite difficult to really understand some things haha
