Is This Buttoning An Actual Thing?
I've been trying to work on getting better at layering. Saw this photo, immediately went "oh hey, that's something I can actually do with my current wardrobe," then immediately noticed how this shirt's buttoned up. Is this something people actually do, just buttoning a few in the middle, or is this going to look goofy in actual real life?

I think it really depends on the layers,I think a plain shirt like that'll look goofy, but if wearing say a Henley under a flanneli don't button many
I routinely only a button a couple buttons if I'm wearing over a tshirt etc.
Yes it’s a thing
It’s fun in the summer too

Go for it
Alright, cool. TIL. Are there any rules about when to or not to do this? I came in a bit skeptical and critical, but I do like that the under layer is showing more than just a bit of collar.
I sometimes do it this way too
There are no rules
Imo the only rule is that it has to pass the eye test
Damn I was quickly out voted
Try it and see if it looks good
with and without undershirts
My eye is not terribly well trained, but I'll defer to the styling suggestion section when I try it. 🫡
See, those look a lot more natural to me, art, than the example I posted.
It’s really just a matter of trial and error
But I agree, the proportions look a little off to me in the one you posted
I’d probably do one more button up to balance the top and bottom of the shirt
Yeah, I was starting to think similarly. Alright, good talk. Thanks for the help.
Buttons are mostly optional, play around with it and have fun
Fun fact, buttonholes were invented hundreds of years after buttons
