Question about flat caps

I've recently been thinking about starting to wear a hat and I like the look of a flat cap but I know it's famous now because of peaky blinders and so I get the sense that it's mostly associated with that show. I'm thinking of getting one but I don't wanna be associated by those "by the ordah of the peaky fookin blinders" wankers that go around spouting incel/sigma bullshit on social media. I'm also considering a beanie but it might get a bit too hot in Australian weather.

Yes, that is the main association. It's also hard to wear a flat cap well, it calls for a fairly specific wardrobe to work with it. A baseball cap is almost certainly going to be easier to work with for most people and are available in such an array of fabrics and styles they can slot into casual most wardrobes.

A wool ballcap would get pretty close to the look while being a lot more wearable

A nice woolen flatcap is certainly warm. Perfect for when the weather is cold. Not so great when it's bloody hot. A woolen flatcap is, well, a wool hat it tends to be warm. As you move away from mainstream style (i.e from baseball caps to flatcaps) you gotta be a bit more conscientious about your outfit in order to make it work. IMO flatcaps work best when you are wearing it with solid colours or plain patterns as opposed to graphic tees and louder colours. The idea is to look well put together and cohesive--and wearing a flatcap as part of it.
