New York City places to shop

There used to be a great post on the Substack detailing places to go to in the city, and for what kind of clothes you're looking for. Off of @Benjiara 's request, I'm making this thread as a place for us to share and detail what you like to go to.

Is there anything you're looking for in particular?

Dawg I thought you had places you wanted to promote 😂 that's what the alley oop was for For me, personally, I like a mix of Ivy prep and what I think is Americana workwear. I also want to learn more about Latin American clothing but I wouldn't know where to start

No man walks alone is a great store (check on their website if there's anything you want to try on and call them to make an appointment) They don't necessarily entirely fit in to the theme but here's a bunch more: CHC*M (they have a bunch of interestinf Japanese brands, arpenteur, Margaret Howell) Standard & strange Blue in green The armoury Cueva Wythe Alumni and hatchet outdoor supply (I've been to the flushing store, and they can have great deals on an interesting variety of brands. Their big winter sale just ended but they'll prob have another one soon) Aime Leone Diore Extra Butter Nepenthes ny Drakes So that's a list of stores with MFA type brands haha There's J.Press for classic ivy There's a store called LS Men's Clothes that does MTM tailoring for a fair price through Rochester Tailoring Company as well as Coppley etc. they also do MTM shirts for a little over $100 through individualized. They have a bunch of affordable RTW stuff lying around that you can search through CEGO Shirtmakers makes bespoke shirts (I got my blue ocbd for $200) as well as a bit of other related stuff Rothman's is a classic old department store and has a clearance rack. They sell Ballin wool slacks for $190 from what I remember and can order what they don't have I would be remiss not to mention historic locations like Macy's herald square or the Bloomingdale flagship Bergdorf Goodman and saks on fifth are classic fancy luxury department stores You have saks off fifth, Nordstrom rack (as well as Marshalls and TJ Maxx) for off price stores that may have some finds Outside of new clothing, NYC has a huge world of curated vintage, consignment chains and actual thrifts

Here's a nice directory of them In terms of shoe specific stores, you have Meermin, Allen Edmonds, Carmina Alden, and Red Wing for branded stores (as well as more mass market stuff like Timberland and Dr Maarten) and independent stores such as Leffot and Ground Gripper Shoe Shop Hmm a clothing brand I missed is 3sixteen Another interesting brand is corridor nyc There's flagship stores for big brands like j crew and Ralph Lauren (as well as separate RRL stores) Todd Snyder has some stores There's work wear stores that sell dickies and Carhartt (pop's popular clothing, Cato army + navy, Dave's new york). There's a classic outdoors/sporting goods store called Paragon Anyway that's my disorganized list of places I've been to and places I want to go (and places I thought are at least worth mentioning There's a tailor shop in Queens called calamita tailoring that sells like nice Italian knit polos and ties for good prices. The ties were only $20

There’s a place in Soho called Schott NYC: they created the original zip-up leather motorcycle jacket (think of the ones punk rockers wear, but take the spikes and patches and shit off) and still manufacture in the same manner as they did when they got started in the early 1900s. Still a family owned business, 3rd Gen, with one of the most charming stores I’ve ever been inside. Fair warning: their leather goods are hella expensive due to the handcrafted in the USA nature of them, but you’re getting the highest quality leather in the country from them. As for their non-leather goods, I wouldn’t buy anything more than a T-shirt as all of that is made in China and imported here. Best in the game for leather though.

Are the peacoats like that as well? I thought they were still top of the line Thank you! Just added those places to my list. Personally I can recommend the Ralph Lauren flagship on the Upper East Side. Wonderful atmosphere

Their peacoats I believe still are actually, thank you for the reminder on that. I just know I got a cardigan from them recently and it was made in China, + the build quality wasn’t outstanding. It’s already lost some of its shape in the armpit Oh also this reminds me, the MoMA design stores next to and across the street from Uniqlo have some neat items; plus all their art shirts (Kaws, Van Gogh, etc) are from Uniqlo blanks
