white stitch across shoulders
I just got a new wool overcoat. There’s a white stitch across the top seam on both shoulders that looks like it should be pulled out. It’s already kind of fraying. This coat is from a pretty reputable brand so I think it’s meant to be pulled out rather than a defect. Does anyone know what it’s for and if it’s common?

But it’s probably meant to be pulled out
Yes, remove it
Should come off pretty easily by hand.
It’s a called a basting stitch. They’re meant to hold the fabric in place while the shoulders are finished. Normally it’s removed after the garment is complete, but some companies leave it on to give the appearance of a “custom” garment
