GDM crash on logout

Result: black screen, cannot access tty, computer active, must force shutdown
Is this fixable?

If you're able to ssh in could you get logs ?
I don't think I can ssh in, but if crash logs are written to disk somewhere I can get those
I'm hoping to replace my 'docked' laptop arrangement with a desktop, which should eliminate a lot of issues, especially regarding startup/login, but until then I've only really got one machine and two external monitors to work with
