Overcoat sizing
Hi all— I’m looking to get a wool overcoat secondhand (double breasted, full length) with a roomy traditional fit, something I can wear over a sport coat or Shetland and a button down.
Given my jacket size (36R) how would you recommend selecting an overcoat size? Thanks! (For context, searching for brands like Aquascutum/Burberry etc.)

I think you’ll be fine getting the same size as your jacket size. Most overcoats will be roomier with the purpose of layering under it
Overcoat sizing vs tag size varies. In theory it is designed to match, ie, a size 36 should fit. But you gotta check measurements. Probably wanna add like... 2 more inches or so? Versus your sport coat physical chest/waist measurements. Maybe a little more, depends
Sometimes the same size is correct, 36 for 36. Other times you need to size up to 38 if not maybe even 40 if the people deciding tag sizes smoked a little crack or whatnot
^Yeah measurements are definitely the best way to decide. If you’re buying online, most people will show at least the pit-to-pit measurement and you can compare
