What is happening?

All my hoodies, and jackets to be broad, are getting this red shade. What is this, can I cure it, and how do I prevent it? I don’t use any skin or hair products, and it isn’t something from my skin I presume.

Do you have a job that deals with chemicals? Does your laundry detergent have some bleach in it? Is your clothing rack near a bright window?

No job with chemicals. Maybe detergent has bleach, but I chuck my hoodies along with all my other clothes, and none of them turn any colors. I use a dryer, not a clothing rack

are they permanent or can you wash it off

It doesn’t wash off. I tried washing it, using a lint roller, but nothing works.

and its only the hoodies and jackets that get these spots not pants?

It happened to a pair of really cheap cargos that I had for over a year, but no other pants These hoodies get these colors within 1-3 months

Im so confused, I believe you but where does this come from? I just use detergent and a fabric softener. If it was bleach my other clothes would also go red.

The sun can bleach things. Do you spent a lot of time in bright sunlight? Dry your clothes in direct sunlight?

Maybe check your detergent for bleach? Possibly other harsh chemicals? I’m not an expert for sure, I think it’s unlikely is a sun stain unless you’re drying your clothes in the sun- maybe these fabrics or materials are more sensitive to the detergent you use compared to other clothes?

From what I can see no bleach

I don’t spend much in the sunlight, maybe 2 hours or so in typical california weather. I also have an inside dryer

could be high temperature or ph? fabrics can be finicky, if it’s only that brand and not bleach i would try washing them alone in tap cold or cold water

I agree with it looks like they're getting bleached somehow I would try to think hard about how any bleach could be getting introduced to the fabric You might be able to darken them back up with some rit dye

Where do you store your clothes when not wearing them?

This is a solid question

In a closet, far away from any sun The pictures aren’t exactly true to color, and one of the hoodies is really green, do you think I can use the rit dye on it?
Bigelow
Bigelow13mo ago
Yeah. The bleaching has removed some dye from the fabric, and you can add some back

Does anyone else use the washing machine, and is it possible they are putting bleach in it?

Some spot/acne creams have a bleaching effect, if you're using those they can get on clothes and cause this problem. Happened to me once.
