Pending Verification for Icloud account
I have added the destination address [email protected] and have never received the verification email. I can send email from my gmail account and receive it in my icloud account, just never get the verification email.

Are you using ICloud's Custom Email Domains which partner with Cloudflare, or just Email Routing standalone?
I am definitley a novice with this stuff. I thought I was using Email Routing standalone. However, when I check my icloud account, it looks like my email is set up under Iclouds custom email domain. When I try to set it up under iclouds custom domain for my wife, it shows that the domain isn't available.

If you're using ICloud's Custom Domain feature, can't use Email Routing as well.
I don't know that much about ICloud Custom Email Domains, or if you can add other addresses, would want to reach out to Apple about that information or try to find info about it on their forums/support site
Can I delete the custom email domain on icloud and only use the cloudflare eamil routing alone. If so, hos do I set that up for two accounts?
I was able to delete the custom domain form icloud. What are the steps to set up how to start using my domain in email.

On how to get started with email routing? Under Email Routing settings you can get its records setup/created, and add any dest. emails you want, and then the routes for them
Under email routing - rules I have
Custom address - [email protected] - Action is send to email - Destination is my gmail account - Status is active -
Desination address is verified
Nice, sounds like you're almost there then.
If you go under the Settings of Email Routing tab, you should see routing status disabled/misconfigured, and if you click on the three dots, an option to fix records
Routing Status is enables and Email DNS records is Configured MX records are locked

For ksmetcalf.com? I still see CF serving icloud mx records
Domain shows ksmetcalf.com
What do you see under DNS -> Records if you look for mx records?

In Email Routing it says "This zone isn't activated yet"
Did you login via your iCloud account? Sounds like you may be using the wrong CF Account
I logged out of all my accounts and logged back in.
In the websites tab it should tell you if the zone/website is active or pending setup
it says Pending Nameserver Update
Your website is active in some Cloudflare account, with the nameservers Gracie and Devin. You used CF Registrar as well, you should be able to see it under Registrar -> Manage my domains on the account it's in
If you don't know the email, you can log out and use https://dash.cloudflare.com/forgot-email
I am not seeing Registrar - when I type in the forgot email it gives me 3 choices !. Accounts 2. Websites and 3. My Profile
I was saying when you're logged into what you think is the right account, you should be able to see the domain under domain registration
You need to be logged out when you click on forgot-email
There is nothing there...
You'd have to select an account first, if that's what you're confused by
domain registration is account level
Okay - I got into Forgot Email? I receive the email about Forgotten email notification
That's the email you got a Cloudflare account on with the domain. Most commonly, the confusion with iCloud registered domains is that you have to sign in via iCloud and not just make a new account
Okay - I got logged in and it shows my domain is active - do I just go through the email set up now?
Nice!
Yea, just through the same steps to setup Email Routing as you did before, add the route/verified adress, flick over to the Settings tab and ensure Email routing is active (and if not, the three dots have a drop down to a Fix records button)
Is the destination address the icloud account or my domain account (ksmetcalf.com)
icloud, if it was your domain that would just be a loop
it will not send an email to the icloud email address I am setting up for my wife at her icloud account. It verified mine almost immediately.
hmm, you both have iCloud emails, right? You got an verf. email instantly, your wife never? Checked spam and such, I assume?
Yes - she has an icloud email account. I sent an test email to it, and she got it.
You sent an email direct, not through email routing, I assume? Still not getting verification?
That is correct - I sent it to her icloud email address from my work email address and she received it almost immediately
If it's not in spam or anywhere else, I would double check your spelling or could try a subaddress ex. [email protected] in case it's on a suppression list or something, might get around it, just an idea
so it would be [email protected]?
+
, not .
. It's just iCloud (and many other emails) support of subaddressing
[email protected] will go to your inbox, was just a silly idea to try to avoid any issues if her email was on a suppression list or used for something else, or something eirdThat didn't work either - should I try to go through her gmail account?
Strange, worth a try. They could just also be delayed, suppose you'll find out eventually though
It verified through her gmail account - how do I set up her custom domainthrough gmail?
Are you talking about sending email out using the custom domain?
yes
Email routing is inbound only, can't send out via it. Would have to use some other service, like how with the iCloud integration you can send out using their email servers
So, I tried to "add a mail account" through gmail and I get his error message. There was a problem connecting to mail.ksmetcalf.com
Add a mail account is for if you have an existing email server, which Email routing isn't/doesn't provide
Email routing is just a simple forwarder
iirc iCloud would let you add aliases and wildcards with your custom domain, but not let someone in a different account reply through it either. If that is your goal, you'd be better off with something like Fastmail Family, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, one of those email solutions in which you could manage it and allow your family members to have inboxes.
Otherwise, simple forwarding is what Email routing will give you
